First class send off for postie

A POPULAR postman has been given an extraordinary send off from the village he served for a decade.

Villagers in Islip, collected £1,150 for postie Russell Cherry.

At a farewell event in the village hall, on Tuesday, residents also handed him a watercolour painting by local artist Colin Tuffrey.

Mr Cherry, 61, who lives with his wife Anne in South Leigh, near Witney, said he would spend his retirement to walking and cycling.

Mr Cherry, who was a postman for 20 years – having previously delivered in Middle Barton and Kidlington, said: “Islip was an amazing village to serve.”
