Drivers working for Royal Mail Group via recruitment firm Manpower have been asked to take a pay cut.
On 31 July, Manpower staff working for Royal Mail were informed a wage cut would take effect from 10 August, and acceptance must be received by 6 August.
In a leaked letter to RoadTransport.com, Manpower's head of driving and logistics, Simon Edwards, states to staff: "We are asking all employees engaged on Royal Mail assignments to consent to this change. One of the options that might be available to us, if agreement cannot be reached, is to give notice to terminate employees' current assignments and offer new assignments that incorporate the change set out in this letter."
A Manpower spokeswoman says: "Because of tough trading conditions, and in an attempt to protect as many jobs as possible, it has become necessary to review and reduce the pay rates of Manpower drivers at our client Royal Mail, effective from 10 August."
Manpower says it does not comment on individuals' terms of employment, including financial information. However, one employee has informed RoadTransport.com that a standard Class 1 driver wage would be decreased from £9.50/hr to £9/hr, while overtime and weekend rates will be reduced from £14.25/hr to £13.20/hr.
Manpower is one of the UK's largest employment organisations with more than 300 offices across the UK.

Does this mean then that they charge RM less then??Bit of a silly question really,baring in mind the profit driven world we live in.

This might be slighly off plan but we have park and loop and at this point in time have about 12 Hire vans, which of course advertise the hire firm, it looks a little bit like RM have been taken over by them on our car park. I just wonder if the much vaunted investment in vehicles actually includes these vans which will never be liveried in RM colours.
