WYRE Forest residents are being advised to “Jilt the Junk Mail” this summer.

Worcestershire County Council's waste prevention team is reminding residents about its Jilt the Junk Mail campaign, which provides simple advice on how to help reduce the amount of unwanted mail falling through the door.

The team has produced a free pack that includes information on how to register with the Mailing Preference and Royal Mail Door to Door Opt Out services.

By registering their details, residents can remove themselves from mailing lists and dramatically cut down on the piles of junk mail they receive.

The pack also includes a "no junk mail" letterbox sticker and two envelope re-use stickers. Packs are available free to all households across Worcestershire.

Since the beginning of the campaign, more than 66,000 households in Worcestershire have registered with the Mailing Preference Service to reduce direct mail.

Anthony Blagg, the county council's cabinet member with responsibility for waste and green environment, said: "The free packs provide the necessary tools to give everyone a choice about what gets posted through their letterbox.

“We are urging residents to use the packs and take the simple steps to reduce waste.

"We are also reminding people that if they do still receive junk mail, they can recycle it through their kerbside recycling collection, at local recycling banks or even compost it at home."

How are you supposed to decide what junk mail is? It's our job to deliver all addressed mail.

i usualy get to the customers front gate with there precious d2d leaflets and the customers usualy says "just put it in the bin son" and by luck the bin is on the street waiting to get empted

I bet most of them have signed up for store loyalty cards,and then moan when they get shed loads of junk mail,are these people so stupid to actually believe the likes of Tesco and Sainsbury's give a flying feck about them FFS
