STRIKE STRIKE and more STRIKES ?

Post by somerset »

I am not a defeastest but i have to question what all these random strikes are for? I am all for the CWU but it seems to me it's all over the place! We were due a pay rise April ( RM annouce £361 million profit) and then say pay freeze!
It is asusual August and nothing? Whilst it seems that RM our making a nice little bit of interest on £361 million?
Okay i realise times our hard. So lets freeze everything else? Council tax, electric ,gas. etc.
I have done in the last month the 24 hour strike and what did we in our office gain? Naff All ! Should be interesting if they come up with a national ballot? Some posties ( not me) fed up off losing a days pay for no gain?

No pay increase, yep a very fair point. However :

My partner is also on a pay freeze this year and she's had all bonus's stopped. Its all around profit or not

To be honest i would take the pay freeze on the chin if we could shelve the lapsing and other cuts as i really do think this could be the start to part time duties. Were all really fed up at my office anyway so a ballot will be very welcome to express our anger. :mad
Rows of houses all bearing down on me........I can feel their blue hands touching me.......All these things in all positions.........All these things will one day take control..........

we don't control everything else, but we can force a pay rise. As it is a pay freeze is a pay cut in real terms and after 1 days strike in your office some of your posties are fed up! My office so far has taken part in several 24 hour strike with 2 more planned, yes we don't like losing pay , but putting up with a pay cut is not acceptable let alone the cuts to our pensions and now the absorbsion thier trying to bring in as well

somerset royal mail at the moment dont give a fig about the posties at the moment.they want change regardless of national agreements etc.do you think they will stop this?our terms and conditions are diminishing rapidly, they are targetting sick ,o/t payments and seemingly loving confrontation.industrial action is the last resort no one wants to do it.the way i look at it it is short term loss for long term gain.as it looks like we are heading towards a national strike royal mail supported by a labour govt have a think about you r your long term future because at the moment royal mail are behaving abhorentially towards its workforce. :mfo :mfo

I applaud you londoners for taking strike action :Applause But could you tell me what you have actually gained ? Our office was bullied and harrased into revision . Now doing summer lapsing ,preping P/t duties as well as our own. The way most of us see it is we need a national strike ? Not much point individual offices going out on onedayers?

Untill the rest of the country comes out with us we'll have gained nothing. The managers dont give a sh*t if we strike on our own all we're doing is saving them money on our wages. The day after we strike we go back to mountains of work that is all taken out for nothing over the next 2 days. The union has let everyone down on this ballot and is causing real hardship to many of it's members.

:Applause :Applause Exactly upmyroad. When indivual offices go out on different days they just bring in a load of managers to cover the specials etc Then they prep all the frames for next day ( walk sequenced) We all think cost RM a fortune to cover that ? But they save on our days wages! Only thing hurting them is the inconvience!

1 day or so of you wages - against

Getting managers in from all over the country and paying them mileage
Managers Wages for the day.
Meals Paid for.
Hotels Paid for.
The hassle for them going from 1 strike location to another.

and the best bit. Some DO or Unit somewhere have less manager to cope with. :chuckle :chuckle :chuckle :nervous

Its definietly costs them more when your on strike than what they save in wages for that day.

To be honest I cant see how part of us striking while the vast majority are working hurts anyone but those of us strikinging. they save on a days wages and we take the work out over the next 2 days. The DOMS couldn't give sh*t if we lose a days money so long as the bacl log is cleared over the next couple of days.

people in my office are confused as to what is making the london offices strike.....our rep is saying its over job cuts and changes to working practices
obviously management are saying they are asking for nothing more than what was agreed in the last pay and modernisation deal...ie 3hour 30 minute walks, summer lapsing etc which is what we already do
all i wish is we could be given a definitive statement from the upper echelons of the CWU as to what is the truth (or are they to busy passing the buck down to local level so they can save face with the labour party cronies and further there own political careers) this would make those who are not sure about taking any industrial action have a clearer view on the whole situation

WHY WE WANT A NATIONAL AGREEMENT FOR YOU!

Post by POSTMAN »

Following Lord Mandelson’s rant in the media, we thought we would set the record straight on what we want for you;-

• The CWU want:-Our members rewarded a fair day’s pay for a fair day’s wage.

• The CWU want: - A fair pay rise not a pay freeze!

• The CWU want:-To modernise the industry, we are not adverse to change, we are however, insisting that you have a share of the savings in your pay, through a fair productivity bonus and a shorter working week.

• The CWU want:- To enter into meaningful discussions on a new delivery model for the future, which safeguards earnings and full time jobs as well as giving part time members the opportunity to progress to full time if they want to.

• The CWU want:-To discuss and negotiate the future structure of Mail Centres across the country because of the effects it will have on pay, conditions of our members. As well as the effect, a mail centre closure will have on local communities and quality of service to customers.

• The CWU want:-To discuss the distribution network on how mail will be circulated around the country so we can ensure customers get a first class service and our member’s terms and conditions are safeguarded in the future.

• The CWU want: - A moratorium on management taking executive action in local offices so National discussions can take place on the future of the industry.

• The CWU want:-Royal Mail to Honour the spirit and intent of the Pay and Modernisation agreement and stop abusing the flexibility section of the agreement.

• The CWU want:-Royal Mail to honour Phase 4 of the Pay and Modernisation Agreement, which secures a national agreement on all of the issues above.

• The CWU want:-Meaningful negotiations on the future of our pension with the government and Royal Mail.

• Remember Royal Mail announced a profit of over £300 million this year. The Government has publicly announced that the current senior managers are not good enough to manage our industry. Say no to Slash and Burn!

The daily grind of having to argue your case with an intellectual pigmy of a line manager is physically and emotionally draining.

Not questioning the strike and what it is all for postman. My beef is with the fact that the union hasn't got it's own house in order. and the main reason we are in so much sh*t now is because of this usless union
