Threatened while delivering Door 2 Door items
As the title says I was threatened by a member of the public while out delivering door 2 door stuff. The guy in question came out is flat threw the items at me while swearing then told me to pick it up, I initially didn't so he clenched his fist and approached me in a very aggressive manner and demanded again that I pick it up and take it with me. I actually thought I would gonna end up getting me head kicked in! I can stick up for myself but I don't recall it being part of my job to have to, besides this guy was a big fella and looked a nasty piece of work

Re: Threatened while delivering Door 2 Door items
Your DOM should be writing to the customer explaining abuse like this will not be tolerated and the mail will be stopped not only to him but the other people in the block because of his behaviour. A postie at my office was attacked a while back(dragged up a path), the customer now has no delivery and he has to get someone to collect his mail from the callers office as he's not allowed on RM premises.

Re: Threatened while delivering Door 2 Door items
thats great how they can stop the mail to the person
i always wondered what happened in this situation
do you think you would get the sack if you ended up in a fight with a person like that ( even though he started it ) and ended up giving him a beating in self defence ?

Do I have to right to not deliver any D2D items to this address until the DOM writes to him? I don't fancy getting repeatedly punched in the head while trying to explain how to opt out of receiving D2D items

All mail delivery should be suspended immediately and the manager should deliver the letter explaining why.Superlonghurst wrote:Do I have to right to not deliver any D2D items to this address until the DOM writes to him? Thanks for the advice I'll go see my line manager or the dom and tell them I'm not delivering anything to that address until they go speak to him.

Re: Threatened while delivering Door 2 Door items
Don't take it upon yourself not to deliver mail, even D2D, otherwise it will give RM the excuse of landing a 'wilful delay' charge against you.
Whenever possible always register your complaint/problem in writing to the Line Manager/DOM so that if they choose not to do anything you can take out a greivance and/or pass the matter further up the chain of command through your Union Rep.
All too often RM accept the word of the customer without conducting a proper investigation as a PR exercise. You are not obliged to put yourself at undue risk in performing your duty so you are within your rights to expect your employer (RM) to protect you whilst carrying out said duty.

I'd find a leaflet with an anger management number on it, deliver it and run. Nobody has mentioned the police because I would report it to them.Superlonghurst wrote:Do I have to right to not deliver any D2D items to this address until the DOM writes to him? Get your rep involved as well, sometimes they can kick up a bigger stink than you can.

Re: Threatened while delivering Door 2 Door items
I'll do that as well.
Thanks for the advice everyone, I'll go see my rep first thing on Monday then either the line manager or DOM. At least I know now that I shouldn't have to deliver anything to the address again pending a complaint from RM to the guy. I'll also ask my rep about reporting it to the Police.

No, don't wait to ask your Rep about calling the Police. Do it right now. That resident committed a Criminal Offence, and should be arrested. Make sure that you insist on pressing charges too. Then, when you go to see your Rep, try to have the deliveries to that address stopped, as well. Just to be on the safe side. You don't want to have to be confronted by that Thug again!Superlonghurst wrote:I'll do that as well.

Re: Threatened while delivering Door 2 Door items
Dont let this go
At the very least get his delivery suspended
Many years back when i first started driving for RM i was sent out to this quite village with a late special to deliver to a named cottage. I got very lost and backed my Sherpa van into a small lane/drive to turn around. It was winter and the rear wheels just slipped on the mud and i got stuck.
I went to the house to ask if i could use the phone (before mobiles). A women came to the door and explained i was stuck, very sorry etc,I took off my shoes went in and phoned the office. I was half way through the call when this guy appears from the back of the house shouting that the land is private and move that f**cking van now. I tried to explain that it was stuck and i had got lost, was really sorry and had no idea the drive was private.
But he lost it big time grabbed my shoulder roughly ripping my shirt collar marched me to the door and threw me out, I just managed to keep my footing. He then threw my shoes at me with some force with one hitting me square in the back. To say i was shocked was an understatement.
Anyway a postie came out in another van with a tow rope and we got the van going and went back to the office where i spoke to the DOM about what happened. He kinda said it was my choice to take it further but would prefer if i forgot it as i must have caught him on a bad day. So i did i forgot it
some of the blokes thought it was funny and even i kinda did after a while.
However a couple of months later one of our posties who used to drink in the village,s local pub overheard the same guy boasting to a group of locals on how he had kicked postman pat's arse out of his house and hit the prat twice on the head with his shoes.
After hearing this i truely wished i had taken it further whilst i had the chance

When I was attacked and gave the police all the relevant information including contact details of a witness they were not interested at all - absolute waste of my time going to the Police Station.
