Procedure for when you cut off.

Post by POSTMAN »

What's yours,we're 1-45 finish and down our way they want us to ring in bout 12-30/12-45.
Otherwise we get done for wilful delay.
You guys?

had a union letter about this last week, you have to tell gaffer asap they will then put presure on you to finish, threaten to patrol you, then make you come back to sign out at your finish time which we normally dont do as we are on task and finish, according to the letter they are supposed to look at leaving in bulk postings etc to see if you can leave some in or take some off you for someone else to do on docket
we dont get much cutting off at the moment but i can see it happening more as staffing levels drop

Not had to cut off for a long time,it just doesn't feel right bringing the stuff back does it? i know the managers
like us to feel that way too so we are less likely to cut off,as stated elsewhere we are supposed to tell manager
asap that we feel we may have to cut off, pref before tying up and then they are supposed to come come up with
some really clever idea that will save you doing just that, but what happens in our office is they try the old "well leave mailsort where your not
going" but we all know by the time you have left out any mailsort where your not going with 'Live Mail' it might amount to half a dozen bits of mailsort
which obviously isnt going to make a whole lot of difference,or they may come up with a cunning plan to let you off waiting for final call up after missort
run to get you out of the building and out on delivery earlier, and the last cunning ruse is to take some of the smaller big packets off you and give to the driver.
So far havn't cut off coz on busy day might go over 3 and half hours but usually only left with a couple of bundles I will just finish them off, but guess in future if they keep pilling it
on will have to think about cutting off, i asked my manager once on a busy day what he would do if i stopped my delivery after 3 and half hours and returned
to the office with mail, still with duty time to spare,he said he would let me grab a quick coffee,go to the loo and send me out to finish off the walk,so i told him
that it would be a waste of time coz by time i got out to continue the delivery i would have had to turn round and return to the office because my duty time
would be over...he didn't really answer the question but shrugged his shoulders and walked away

They asked, we said, "ohhhhhhh na!"! They asked again. we said, "OK but wots it worth?" LOL!!!! I JOKE BUT IT WORKED!! Some still could if common sense provided and WE all knew the bounderys!!! But its a TAKE TAKE TAKE attitude from RM now!! Not that long ago you could talk to ya Guv.. (NOT A SCREW) and they would listen..

It aint just TNT/KRAUTPOST/JONNY COME LATELY that has made the difference its US and RM shitting themselfs and Postcom Independant MY ARSE!!! .. CUT OFFS

Post by johnnyp »

Its the same in our office postman, you must tell a manager as soon as possible if you are not going to finish your delivery so they can then make a decision as to what needs to be done to get the mail delivered. This does not happen very much in our office as we are on a 10 hour day which as good as prevents any failures.

Just wondering - is there any official procedure on this? It used to be the case that we could cut off and didn't have to tell anyone in advance and it was not an issue. Now they're saying that we have to phone the office when we think we aren't going to finish. My issue is, why should I have to bring my phone into work with me? I don't like bringing it around my walk as I have enough in my pockets/bags etc already. What can they do If I just say I've had my phone nicked and I'm not planning on getting a new one?

Blimey this is an old thread!

What our guys do if management play up is go hunting for a phone box, which of course takes ages, then reverse the charges, because strangely enough we've never got any credit left on our phones. :whistle

In our office we must inform the manager as soon as possible which is as soon as you have thrown out your mail and before you tie it up/bundle it?. No wonder we have crystal balls and if you want your palm reading come to our office!.

Same in my office which leads to the inevitable overestimate, if you leave too much then you just adjust your walk to suit.

you have to judge it right here you have to tell them before you leave for delivery in the morning but if you tell them to soon they threaten you with wilful delay , best to tell them as you walk out the door then watch them as they spy on you outside on del . it's a grand life aint it !!

I've always wondered about that, surely if you don't own a phone (a rarity I know), and have no phone boxes (I've never seen one on the rounds I do) you have no way of contacting the office. That would surely become a problem when the office has to contact you to see about your special deliveries.
