ill health lump sum retirement

Post by goldi2k9 »

hi folks, newcomer here but been in hell since december 89 , i'm being considered for i'll health retirement, had an interview with atos on tuesday and they said that im not fit for indoor or outdoor duty and so they have recomended "ill health with lump sum" , got a couple of questions, 1) now that atos has said this, is it more or less sorted that i will be "retired" or do i still have more interviews etc, 2) i have nearly 19 years pensionable service (plan c) does any one know the ballpark for the lump sum and retirement money i might recieve , cheers in advance

 In theory, you should not have to get another interview-but you may find you will attend a further medical after retirement---at the Behest of D.W.P--no matter that Atos work for them.
As for the sums involved, best to google up the union site, preferably for your own area, and they do a fairly accurate
run down of what you may get.Remember you do not have to take what's on offer, and prior to getting retired, your Dom
should present you with all the facts and figures. good luck.

You should get in touch immediately with the CWU Legal/Medical Rep to make sure that you are not being short changed, since ill-health retirement can be an complex issue, make sure you get the amount that you deserve.

I too have just had an ATOS referral where they have recommended IHR, as far as i know after 5 years service you get 43 weeks pay and 9 weeks notice pay bringing it to 52 weeks pay. I don't think the money goes up anymore than that no matter how many yrs you have done.

At 38 what chance have i got at getting another job with that on my record, so i plan to fight this all the way.

A warning to all - do not have any sport interests outside RM, do not do ANYTHING where you could get injured in any way because RM will look to have you retired at the drop of a hat.

Hi,i had my last day of service yesterday after 21 years off service before ill health retirement,to answer your questions, next move your line manager or second line manager will have to interview you and discuss ATOS recommedations and if thier any reasons why you think they are wrong. At this interview thier can be 4 outcomes. 1 agree a date back to work. 2 agree a work area move and reduced hours(rehab). ill health retirement with lump sum. 4 ill health retirement with immediate penson.
You will only get number 4 if they think that you will not be able to work for another employer at all in the future,so that has to be something prety bad.If you have 19 years in you will get the following payment. 34 weeks full pay + 12 weeks notice+ any leave from this year April until now +up to 5 days carried over from last years leave. This will be all paid in one lump payment with no tax as long as its not over 30 k.
I am so happy to be leaving because i have seen the job go down hill and i will be leaving for sunny climates a week on Tuesday but i hope for you guys still in the job all the best for the future and dont let the muppet managers :cfo ruin your job and your wellbeing, cheers

Another one they are hoping to get rid of with ill health retirement, although Atossers are doing there best to cock things up.
I was told that because of my rare condition that I would be offered ill health with immediate pension(which I would prefer anyway)but now they are trying it on by saying they`ve not had a medical report off either my GP or specialist,so I spent a full morning ringing round the different departments and they`ve not had any letters whatsoever off Atos!
I wonder if that was because they still insist on spelling my name and address wrong everytime despite being told about it 3 times now.
Shower of shite. :so there

I'm not surprised that Atos have got your name wrong, on one of the reports they sent to my DOM, I went from being female at the start to becoming male by the time they got to the end of the report
So keep on moving, moving, moving your feet
Keep on shuf-shuf-shuffling to this ghost dance beat
Just keep on walking down never ending streets

thanks for all the replies and your help, i'm just like the majority of people on here offered medical retirement who will be glad to get out , when i started we were proud to work for the best postal service in the world, now we are being run into the ground with every rule stacked against us and designed to destroy us further and a public who only care when a penny is put on a stamp, i expect i won't have too long left with R.M but after finding this forum i'll still keep in touch with the lies and misdeeds of our glorious leaders, thanks again

My own saga continues!
Let this be a warning to other people what a dispicable `health`service Atos are,I`ve been to see a Atos doctor at the `local` :left: mailcentre twice now,the first time the quack asked me about my symptoms etc and asked me if I wanted to be ill health retired,at the time I`d not been off that long and felt that I would be able to get back to work,I told her no I didn`t want to be ill health retired as I`m only in my early 40`s.
The second time I saw the quack I`d been really ill again in the weeks leading upto seeing her again,my GP had given me a long term sicknote and said that I wasn`t to work so this time again she mentioned `ill health retirement` again I told her I didn`t want it as a years pay wouldn`t go very far, especially as the prognosis of my illness was a long term one and I probably wouldn`t be able to get a job for some time if ever, she then said that I would be entitled to the full pension straight away,so I`ve been waiting for them to get in touch with my specialist to confirm my illness since late May,meanwhile I`ve had phone calls off both RM and Atos mithering where is this report etc?(see earlier post on this thread)

I gets a phone call at the weekend some drone from the call centre not asking but telling me I`m having a telephone interview again..so I says what fooking interview? I`m supposed to be getting retired!
Well yes it`s a Doctor who wants a word with you about the options.
So let`s get this straight....after 21 years service I`m having somebody decide my future over the phone....no face to face?
Err yeah thats how we do things now at Atos.
Get`s the phone call, first of all it`s some foreign sounding doctor who I can barely understand what she`s saying and secondly she appears to have the memory of a goldfish as I have to tell her three times what is the illness, what medication I`m on,what coloured underpants I am able to wear today etc.
She then says that as I`m still only young and my condition isn`t an ongoing one  (had it two years already and there is no cure)that RM wouldn`t want to pay the pension for xxx number of years until I get to state pension age and that I would though get a Lump sum option. :no no .woo big f***ing thrill.
So now I can`t go back to work as Atossers says I`m unfit ,I can`t get another job anywhere else as I`m unfit and I have 20 odd years of looking forward to try and stretch out a lump sum payment off RM.
Meanwhile I`m on no fooking pay and can`t get any council tax or other benefits as my wife earns big bucks(she a factory worker and earns bugger all).
And they wonder why people go postal.Fook me.

Hi Can anyone help me. My husband has had a series of strokes over the last 2 years. He has been advised by his doctor that he should not be working. Each stroke gets progressively worse. Is he entitled to get medical retirement and will he get a lump sum or does he just simply have to quit without any benefits what so ever. He has been with Royal Mail for 10 years

Your husband will most definitely get a Lump Sum payment,he just has to stay off long enough and Royal Fail will be falling over themselves to offer it!
They won`t offer your husband a full pension unless your husbands specialist says that he will NEVER work again or within 10 years of leaving the business.

Your husband will get 34 weeks plus 9 weeks pay in lieu and any holidays he has not used whilst being sick.As a rough guide he will get at least 13k lump sum.

just to rub salt in the wounds ,when you have been ill health retired .my decision was done one day after my operation by special delivery(its personal ).when you have dealings with the dwp guess who do it ATOS.
im very tempted to send them there final report for royal mail stating that you were in such a rush to get me out of a job and now you are in a rush to get me back so i come of e.s.a.i was given just over 15.000 pounds plus i also got colleague shares which i had to ask about which came to just over 1000 pounds,so if you are made to take ihr chase that up as i dont think they will mention that.i am appealing against their hasty decision which was based on hearsay and not waiting on the prognosis and not even a medical from atos or royal mail and a very supportive letter from my specialist but that means nothing to rm.personally i think they play the percentage game that when people are made to take ihr they know the majority will not appeal.mine has all the makings of a legal quagmire so when my appeal is undertaken (rm internal) will give a full report to how all this came up.i will also be contacting my local mp and anyone else who will listen.it will also go to a employment tribunal which is why it is good to have support from the cwu.once you are in the headlight for royal mail when you are long term sick i really believe it is a cost cutting exercise as it is a cheap form of redundancy and is being exploited to the fullest by royal mail.

Darth Postie your not wrong pal.
I had my medical for Employment and Support Allowance on the same day I got the push from Royal Mail on ill health grounds,Atossers have said I`m not fit enough to do ANY job and have basically gotten rid of me on Capability bullshit, funny enough the medical also done by Atossers for the DWP has said that I should be downgraded from Employment to Jobseekers as I`m fit to do any work. What a piss take!
Did you know that only 16% of people are being passed by Atossers at the moment as the Liebour lot and the soon to be in power Tories are big on shitting on the sick now. :mfo
