Mail: Call this an improvement

Until recently undelivered mail was taken back to Stamford post office for collection from the designated counter in the alleyway later the same day, which seldom necessitated queuing.

Now the system seems to be that such mail is taken back to Stamford post office and then to Peterborough.

It is then sent back to Stamford for collection 24 (or more) hours later, not from the previous counter (which has now been closed, although it clearly still exists) but from one of the general counters, where queuing is inevitable.

How does this represent an improvement in service? Is there no area of life that is immune from the curse of "management"? We, the paying customers, and our excellent, cheerful, helpful and efficient postmen and postwomen deserve better than this.
