Does your dom expect you to use your own car?
if you really don't want to go to other offices then
try coming to work on a bicycle!
obviously only if its practical for you to do so!
the onus will be on them to take you and bring you back
and they probably wont bother.

More importantly (for you), if you ARE using your own car to get to the other Office. Make sure that you don't call at your normal Office, either before or after going to the other Office, without checking your Insurance Documents. Some Car Insurance Policies, restrict you to 1 place of work per day. So if you had a Policy like that, you'd have to change it. Or you would be driving without valid Insurance, during the journey to and from the other Office. Don't get caught out by a technicality!chunk wrote:Does your dom expect you to use your own car?

Again, thanks for all the useful input, much appreciated. If I were to use my car to get to my own office, and it was parked on the premises, do I also get a lift back from the other office to my own office?

Unfortunately, being in the union (while in my opinion totally essential) won't help you with this issue, as new starters have this whole 'working in nearby offices' included in their contracts now.
I got around it using the method outlined before - cycle into work, and say you will work elsewhere, but you will need to borrow a van or get a lift. They lent me a spare van for a few days, and when this became a problem, they found someone else.

I don't know. But I did change my own Insurance, so I would be covered for travelling between Offices, if neccessary. You don't neccessarily need to pay extra for it, as you're only travelling between places of work. I just changed Insurance Companies, and got it for free!realitybites wrote:Again, thanks for all the useful input, much appreciated. As a delivery postie I would say check with your rep/manager - at our place we have to use Public Transport but the good thing is that if you are moved to another office then travelling time back to your own office has to be included. So if you have 6 hours work each day and it takes 1 hour to get to new office and 1 hour to get back you only have to work for 3 and a half hours.realitybites wrote:Again, thanks for all the useful input, much appreciated. It also means they pay you overtime if it takes you longer to get back then your contracted hours last.
So if the day went like this:
8.00 Arrive at own office
8.30 told to go to another office
9.30 arrive at new office.
10.00 take break
10.30 leave to do duty
----------------------- decision point work over or cut off
Working over:
14.00 finish duty (if it really takes 3.5 hrs
14.15 arrive back at covered office
15:15 arrive back at your own office
total hours work 7:15 (1 hrs 15 Docket)
CUT OFF OPTION
12.45 - Go back to cover office (15 min travelling time)
13.00 - Leave to back to usual office)
14.00 - Finished go home
(Total delivery time 2.15

It's good to get these types of threads, the ridiculous my manager said bollox, so we can reassure ourselves that while the world is falling apart, Royal Mail managers are still being the low-life C***S they have always been.

The daily grind of having to argue your case with an intellectual pigmy of a line manager is physically and emotionally draining.

Re: Being sent to another office, what is the protocol
Have pointed a few of my colleagues in this direction as we will all need the sort of support, moral and otherwise, provided on this site. Amazing to think how much smaller royal mail becomes because of this site. As has been said many times, if we all stick together, and support each other, we can get through this lapsing, royal mails version of the swine flu

Unless you travel 10 miles to your own DO and get sent to your local one, which is 1 mile from your home. You'd save your on own travelling expenses, but be expeced to do your usual number of hours work (I assume).POSTMAN wrote:This sending to other offices is just bollox, but if you do it right like teebs has posted you do naff all work.
