She classes them as bonuses, when i do one it helps out with things,if i don't then the world aint gonna end.
There's no doubt we need to get to the mentality though that it's a bonus now and again if we get it.
forgive me if i'm being thick but i thought that o/t is the basic rate until you have done 40 hrscow post wrote:Been on a 30hr contract for 10 years now and no prospect of a f/t position anytime soon. I do overtime to make it upto a full-time wage, i try and not work anymore than 10hrs overtime because the rate drops after that. I could do without overtime, but would have to cut back on small things by not going out and socialsing with my mates as much. What ever overtime i make i don't spend and put it into a savings pot and the rest just goes on utilities.
On the mention about overtime, DUNFERMLINE AND KINROSS have introduced an overtime ban following the running of strikes.
Thats what I thought.Shouldn't it go up when you reach 40 hours.stupidboy wrote:forgive me if i'm being thick but i thought that o/t is the basic rate until you have done 40 hrscow post wrote:Been on a 30hr contract for 10 years now and no prospect of a f/t position anytime soon. The way they manage is by literally running around the deliveries, and by running i don't mean a gentle jog. It's a full blown sprint.dvbuk55 wrote:Begs the question how big are these walks? There's not a cat in hells chance of anyone doing anything like two walks in our office let alone 3 - they may manage a cut off but 3 walks FFS - no wonder RM are on about Spanish practices, remember the printers - they were paid for x numbers of workers when only y number were actually working and the rest was shared between them.bexhil palace wrote:We've got guys doing up to 3 walks some days![]()
God help them when the docket goes as it surely will.
Linford Christie couldn't do 3 walks here, even running and forgetting bag drops and shaving 60 mins from each delivery, it is still 7.5 hours minimum - add comfort break.?????????????????? Who prepares the deliveries?bexhil palace wrote:The way they manage is by literally running around the deliveries, and by running i don't mean a gentle jog. It's a full blown sprint.dvbuk55 wrote:Begs the question how big are these walks? I know because iv'e seen them.
Quite true! It was about 1.45 and there was also a Saturday premium - the best of it was, you didn't book the O/T daily, you worked your 40hrs cumulatively and by 9/10/11 a.m. Friday you had completed your weeks work and the rest of Friday and all day Saturday was on O/T rate - we probably earned more a week then than now.Carnoustie wrote:Older posties at my office tell me the overtime rate in the (very) distant past was always a straight multiple of basic pay rate, something like 1.45x (not quite time-and-a-half). These days, there's very little difference - in terms of hourly rate - between 'first 10 hours' overtime rate and what we get paid per hour for basic pay. And the rate for any overtime hours after the first ten does actually go down, so it's probably below basic rate now. Perhaps they should re-name it "undertime" ???![]()
Not that I care too much - you should try never to be an overtime junkie. Make ends meet on basic pay, don't rely on overtime, cause RM can whip it away and then they have you by the short and curlies
Quite surprised by the answers people,i do under 10hrs a week OT and or SA,and could quite easily do without,BUT i know of at least 3 people in my MC that do 70+ EVERY WEEK!(40basic plus 30 ot)hubbahubba wrote:Just thought id throw this in,how many of you,or people at your DO/MC rely on overtime/schedule att to pay the bills.Could you survive on basic pay? What with all the cutbacks and major changes on the way,i know there are plenty in my office who reckon they would struggle bigtime to pay the bills...
You and me both.disgruntledpostie1 wrote:Just wait until Christmas this year, I (and I'm sure others) won't be doing ANY OT, I don't need it so I won't be doing it.
I know what will happen to me, I'll be moved onto a spare, doing peoples cut offs and the extra packetsbut I'll still be finished on my time
Lazy pair - come christmas I'll be doing 70+hours a week - or is it a month - yeah that's it a month - I get SAD in Winter, I don't really know what it means but I don't do much work and I need a lot of sleep - come to think of it I get the same symptoms in summer as well - maybe I'm just old and don't really give a flying fock.tiredwalker wrote:You and me both.disgruntledpostie1 wrote:Just wait until Christmas this year, I (and I'm sure others) won't be doing ANY OT, I don't need it so I won't be doing it.
