THE Royal Mail sorting office in Laurencekirk is on the move, after the best part of a century in its present location at 39 High Street.
Manager Russell Moir and his team of 14 "posties" will sort the mail at their High Street headquarters for the last time on Saturday and from Monday they will be operating from new premises in Unit One of the Laurencekirk Business Park.
The relocation is necessary as the town's Post Office is relocating from its premises next door at 41 High Street, into number 39.
It is not known exactly how long the High Street building has been used to sort the mail for residents and businesses in the Mearns, six days a week.
Back in the days when The Post Office and Royal Mail were one company, the upstairs of the building also housed the Laurencekirk telephone exchange.
Russell Moir says they are looking forward to having more space in their new premises and that the service offered to the communities of the Mearns will be unchanged.
As soon as the posties have gone out on their deliveries on Saturday, ROMEC, the Royal Mail engineers will move in and carry out the move.
The public should note that all undelivered parcels and other items of mail will continue to be collected from the Post Office and not from the Business Park premises.
