"temporary managers"

Post by Edward Hunter »

Down here in sunny London town our DOM today asked for volunteers to become "temporary managers" At a guess this vacancy will last as long as we continue to be on strike. A chance to go to the dark side, and get you come in on strike days too. To paraphrase a certain newspaper columnist "you couldn`t make it up!" Anyone else get similar?

I'm sure several from my office would love to become managers, they worked through our last strike and I know that they'd love to move to the dark side (they can't do their job very well and they rely on the DOM to keep them out of trouble).

I dont think its always about joining the dark side tbh. Some people may need more money and apart from beasting in OT the other option is going into management , few guys ive spoked to who joined the so called dark side was because they wanted more money.

It's good to get these types of threads, the ridiculous my manager said bollox, so we can reassure ourselves that while the world is falling apart, Royal Mail managers are still being the low-life C***S they have always been.

Like several other people on this site, I think I've burned too many bridges to ever make it into management (at least within RM) plus, I could never look at myself in a mirror again if I did move to the darkside

It depends on how strong you are. There are a small number of people, who manage to stand up to the pressure, and do the right thing, as a Manager. They're incredibly rare. But they do exist. You never know, you might be able to pull it off. :hmmmm

Personally, I won't do it, because I don't think I'd be able to cope with that much pressure to "tow the line".

I have a management background but quit it for more family life, my DOM reminds me of my background every time I complain or have an argument about something. I could never be a manager in RM as my policy was to be hands on in my jobs and I always question orders from above if I thought they were wrong. The nearest my DOM gets to being hands on is walking across the floor to his office and back again when going home.

I was earning 22k 6 years back so i know they are on better money now and the bonus's they get are pretty good to,like i say i had to walk away as there is only so many times you can put up with rubbish,my blue sky thinking turned very black, also as somebody has said when you start to question about instructions given from above managment, your manager starts getting anncie with you, like you have no right to question then it's time to go.

Thats right draft in a mass of "managers" ready for strike action, these "managers" are only being drafted for the purpose of covering postal workers during strikes :no no

would it not benifit us if senior posties or reps went into management and instead of being yes men/women tried to change the current managerial culture by becoming more hands on...listening to the concerns of of posties etc
