No it would only be unofficial if you didt attend for work. For example if you were due to go on strike from 10 in the moring till the end of your shift then providing you came into work then they would not classify that as unofficial action but if they would ask you if you intend to go on stike at 10 and if you do they will tell you that you will be paid for the day. Anywork you do after this will not be paid.

Are their any managers in when most turn up at work these day's even if the postmen do turn up at their official startimes some managers are not in do we get paid up until they ask the question?. If this is not the case can we sue royalmail in a class action for their lack of leadership and their inability manage a situation in which by law we have given them fair notice of our intention too strike!. Is it not the case that if royalmail can refuse pay for not working a full day can they also refuse pay for a full week if you take one day action?. WE ALL KNOW ROYALMAIL WILL THINK THEY ARE ABOVE THE LAW OF THE LAND BUT THEY ARE NOT!.

I think this is our "miners" battle, if we lose this fight then our union is finished!! RM with government backing(why are we still giving them £?) are out to destroy our terms an conditions and ultimatley our union, who through members past and present have gained us all the benefits of what until now was a good job.

With threats of witholding pay etc it is now vital that us members stand up and be counted because i believe this will be the most bitter dispute since the miners. This is win or lose, their is no draw. I personally cannot see how we our going to avoid unofficial action, this is one dispute that HQ cannot win/lose for us, its time for ALL us members to draw a line in the sand and fight to protect ours and basically put, our families futures.

Nobody enjoys striking, but now we no other options fight fire with fire :cfo :mfo :cfo :mfo :left: :left:

As we dont get paid in arrears are Royal Mail legally allowed to withold wages from the following week as that weeks money is not related to any part day action from the previous week.

One more reason not to move to monthly pay.

They can't legally withould your wages anyway!

They probably will carry out their threats anyway. But it's illegal.

Reading between the lines RM management are trying to get you to not turn up for your duty on the day of the part-day strike. After all, who is going to do voluntary work for that shower?

Then when you don't turn up for the hours you aren't striking, you are in breach of contract & they are within their rights to sack you.

And yes, they do have to pay you for hours worked. Don't forget, the CWU have to post notice of an intended strike.......that means the times that strikes apply, any other hours do not count as strike action.
you are so right. we got the management bullshine about "being decent employers we will pay you for the hours worked on Friday - but not on saturday" - this was purely in the hope that people would not bother to come in and put themselves on unofficial action which they would then deal with under the conduct code. our rep pointed this out at the meeting and the speed with which the DOM denied it spoke volumes.

Do not trust the management to give you the right time :evil/mad
