The strikes have been called off because we have members who would be taking strike action some for just 3 hours but would have lost a full days pay be that 10 hours or 8 hours. Our members have been incrediably loyal with 4 days strike action so far we thought it was better to stand them down and serve notice for strike action next week for a whole day. Albeit it West End will be taking friday to monday and a few other offices will taking strike action.

This is going to be a long dispute and one which we have to balance on not burning people out to also keeping the pressure on.

I realise some want more action but others less. Up the road was only complaining that he was having to take two days work out in one and now he is complining he is not taking strike action you cant have it both ways.
Then why were the offices se2,28 and 19, told that the wrong date had been put on the notices?
Did someone pass on the wrong message? :confused

No those offices did have the wrong dates but the action for south east London has been stood down for friday and saturday so they would not have been taking action in any case.

No I'm complaining about the fact that once again the same 10% or so are again striking. Why because the CWU can't or for what ever reason won't get it's act together. Iam more then willing to go out and stay out untill a good deal is won. But if the union is going to drag it's feet and let the same 10% strike everytime and then get s**t on when we go back then you can expect people to start asking WHY.

Its not an ideal situration but keeping taking action together is important and thats what we decided.
Yes but we're not all taking action together are we. Because the CWU can't get it's act together it's the same 10% of the workforce striking AGAIN.
Once again we'll go out while the other 90% carry on working. We'll go back the day after to another pile of work sent to us by those still working.
Now hang on a bit. I agree that HQ have let us down. And worse still, they've let a small group of people take all the blame for it! Just look back at some of the posts on here. It's all very easy to say "the CWU are f*****g up the paperwork". But do you realise just how much of it there is?
How many people are likley to be actually processing it at HQ?
Has anyone heard of extra staff being brought in to cope with it?
I haven't!

The CWU at Local, and Area (at least where I am). Do a f*****g good job! They're not perfect, no-one is. But they work very hard, and take the time and trouble, to find out what the Grass Roots really thinks. It's just HQ IMHO who let us down. Please don't tar them all with the same brush.
Rubbish. They take enough money from us every month. They should now be spending some of that money on getting ballot papaers out

oooops, didn't mean to start an all out war on here!

But tbf,if RM can have people checking everything we send them, then why can't the CWU?

Same thing regarding the part pay thing, seems ill thought out to me,but we'll see what the lawyers say,but where were the CWU lawyers?

It's good to get these types of threads, the ridiculous my manager said bollox, so we can reassure ourselves that while the world is falling apart, Royal Mail managers are still being the low-life C***S they have always been.

We want the National Ballot as well that is why we are intending to ensure the PEC sets a timetable for the ballot next tuesday. In fact when they turn up there will be a delegation of reps and members to make sure that message is relayed including finding where Billy Hayes is when we are being attacked.

Look i understand its us at the moment on the front line but its more than 10 % that number was the amount who took action on the 17th July but there are over 530 ballots including London with more results coming in every day. Others are taking strike action this week also. Plus more will be going next week.

Why is it rubbish?
You're right that the Ballot Papers should have gone out a long time ago, and that there shouldn't be any mistakes (e.g. wrong dates) on the notifications. But the sad fact is, that no matter how much effort is put in by Local and Area Reps. It all has to go through HQ. All I'm asking you to do, is direct your wrath at the right people. Why tar everyone with the same brush, when (at least in my opinion) the blame lies squarely with HQ? :hmmmm

when we were told this morning the strikes were off it was a bit of a mixed bag in our office. some thought we should just go out for the 2 days the other's were just happy to be getting a full week's money. to be far it is all a bit of a mess some areas in but most of the country is still working. it is a bit of a kick in the old ball bag when you go in the day after and see all that work thats been brought down to us because we were the only one's out. and i must admitt i have heard a few asking why are we striking when everyone else is working.

What I mean is that this is no way for the union to be treating it's memebers.

Why are we making excuses? in the end we backed down!! however we try to hide the fact giving royal mail the impression that can do what they want and get away with it..the staff at my office are fully behind the cwu and we have had 100% so far..but this is a right kick in the teeth for them and they are well and truly pissed off our managers are loving this!!

I wonder....

Post by andy2007 »

Would it be possible, during times like this, where there are many separate requests for Strikes. For each Area to sort out their own Ballots and Notifications, independantly, until such time as there's a National Strike?
I know it sounds a bit radical. But it would mean we would be relying on people we often know and trust. Rather than people that most of us outside London, rarely see in person. :hmmmm

What do you think?

You're right about who's to blame for the dispute. What I meant was, that HQ are responsible for the delays getting Ballots arranged, and the mistakes that have been made with the paperwork. Both in 2007, and now. :hmmmm

Believe it or not: I've recently found out that HQ have 1, yes, just 1, person processing all the paperwork at HQ! That's just insane! :arrrghhh :d'oh! :arrrghhh

Sorry mate but I disagree we were in a position were London postie's would have had 20 hrs taken out of there pay next week, for an 8 hour strike, now we may have got that money back in 12 months time after a court case, but why play RM game, as for managers loving it, most of them have trouble crossing the road on there own, so I wouldn't care what they think, imo the right decision was made in the circumstance.
