Re: CWU F*** UP STRIKES AGAIN!!
Listen there has not been any f**k ups with standing down action this week , that action has been stood down becasue Royal Mail have written to the CWU and given a letter to members informing them if they take part strike action be that 2 , 3 , 4 or 5 hours will have a full days pay stopped. Our members have been very loyal to this union we did not want to cost them 2 days wages because they took 2 part days strike action.
Instead all London Branch`s have agreed 2 new 24 hour strikes which I wont confirm till near the time but will be effective. The part day action we are currently recieving legal advice on but was clearly hurting Royal Mail which is why they stooped to the levels they have.
Big Daz the way we serve notice is that a rep yes a rep does the 150 notices times etc and more details if you having nights out , then this is email to HQs who then have to put in the number of staff who are OPGs in that office and OPG support staff as this number changes on Royal Mail`s data bases then this is then printed off and then taken to rathbone place to Dale Lang the National IR places. Last week we had to serve over 330 notices and yes sometimes mistakes happen and yes it is unfornately but is not deliberate i can assure you that.
People can moan and doing notices is a thankless task but people are doing their best .

Re: CWU F*** UP STRIKES AGAIN!!
Hey if your not up to the job why don't you use some of the million's of pounds the union receives every month from us and pay someone that does know what they are doing.dingo wrote:Look i know its easy to knock the CWU for the ballot issues but have any of you ever had to do 150 notices ensuring times ,dates numbers and shifts and OPGs and OPGs support are all correct. We have had 4 strike days amd more to come which means we have had to serve something in the region of over a thousand notices for London alone and if only 3 mistakes have occured i hardly thing that is a major disaster.
In any case Royal Mail`s move today on part day action means we have to consider our tactics going forward. More will follow on this in due course

A more constructive suggestion.
Perhaps, rather than criticising those who're making mistakes with the paperwork. It would be better to get some more help in. That way, they wouldn't be under so much pressure to do it so fast, and therefore, reduce the risk of mistakes. I don't know how many people there are, filling out the paperwork. But it obviously isn't enough. We of all people, should understand what it's like, to be expected to do ever larger workloads. Without being given enough resources for it.
I know that the more recent cancelations, have been due to problems implementing the half day Strikes. But we're all aware of the massive backlog arranging Ballots. Is it really too much to ask, for some extra help, for those faced with such a mountain of work?

It's good to get these types of threads, the ridiculous my manager said bollox, so we can reassure ourselves that while the world is falling apart, Royal Mail managers are still being the low-life C***S they have always been.

Re: CWU F*** UP STRIKES AGAIN!!
I can understand all the problems involved in the ballots , but as i'm sure you are aware the letter that management read out this morning clearly stated that we would be paid for a half day strike on thursday and from friday onwards they would stop a full days pay for a half day strike.Their was no reason for calling off thursdays half day strike the members in my office were gutted and just wanted to walk out there and then. Half day strikes finishing at 10am are the way to go big impact on rm less money lost by usdingo wrote:Listen there has not been any f**k ups with standing down action this week , that action has been stood down becasue Royal Mail have written to the CWU and given a letter to members informing them if they take part strike action be that 2 , 3 , 4 or 5 hours will have a full days pay stopped. Re: CWU F*** UP STRIKES AGAIN!!
Andy Headquaters is responsible for the backlog on the ballots and its one which needs to be addressed in HQs.
Up the road I dont do the notices myself but equally dont think its right that you criticise someone who has done it in his own time and on top of his normal work load in the desire to ensure that London takes strike action on the dates sugguested. The fact is it takes up to two days to do all 150 notices and up to now there has been no mistakes.
In anycase the action in South East have been stood down because of Royal Mail`s instruction to take a full days pay off someone for taking part strike action, So the mistakes are ilrelevant . We are in the process of doing the next load of notices and hopefully we wont make further errors.
A national dispute is easier as you only have to serve one notice.

Re: CWU F*** UP STRIKES AGAIN!!
Not all the strikes are off this week only certain areas . I understand some were considering taking one days part action but in the main Branch`s decided to pull the action and serve Royal Mail with a further two further days of strike action.
Its not an ideal situration but keeping taking action together is important and thats what we decided.

Re: CWU F*** UP STRIKES AGAIN!!
I didn't criticise those who're already working on the many different notices, and requests for Ballots. What I actually said was:dingo wrote:Andy Headquaters is responsible for the backlog on the ballots and its one which needs to be addressed in HQs.

I also wholeheartedly agree that it's a problem which needs to be addressed by HQ. Surely they should have got extra people in, to help with the workload. There's only so much work that can be done in a particular length of time, by each individual. If people are put under too much pressure, they're bound to make the occasional mistake. They're only Human!

Yes but we're not all taking action together are we. Because the CWU can't get it's act together it's the same 10% of the workforce striking AGAIN.dingo wrote:Not all the strikes are off this week only certain areas . Once again we'll go out while the other 90% carry on working. We'll go back the day after to another pile of work sent to us by those still working.

Re: CWU F*** UP STRIKES AGAIN!!
Eddie and Up the Road lets get things straight none of the strikes have been called off by mistakes fact.
The strikes have been called off because we have members who would be taking strike action some for just 3 hours but would have lost a full days pay be that 10 hours or 8 hours. Our members have been incrediably loyal with 4 days strike action so far we thought it was better to stand them down and serve notice for strike action next week for a whole day. Albeit it West End will be taking friday to monday and a few other offices will taking strike action.
This is going to be a long dispute and one which we have to balance on not burning people out to also keeping the pressure on.
I realise some want more action but others less. Up the road was only complaining that he was having to take two days work out in one and now he is complining he is not taking strike action you cant have it both ways.

Re: CWU F*** UP STRIKES AGAIN!!
Now hang on a bit. I agree that HQ have let us down. And worse still, they've let a small group of people take all the blame for it! Just look back at some of the posts on here. It's all very easy to say "the CWU are f*****g up the paperwork". But do you realise just how much of it there is?upmyroad wrote:Yes but we're not all taking action together are we. How many people are likley to be actually processing it at HQ?
Has anyone heard of extra staff being brought in to cope with it?
I haven't!
The CWU at Local, and Area (at least where I am). Do a f*****g good job! They're not perfect, no-one is. But they work very hard, and take the time and trouble, to find out what the Grass Roots really thinks. It's just HQ IMHO who let us down. Please don't tar them all with the same brush.
