What about piece rate what about contract work what about sacking all those useless managers (because TBH they really don't have the hardest job in the world)

I'm not pounding the streets in all weathers, for 6+ hours for minimum wage, you put me in a warm office that doesn't require all the crap that have to put up with and I may consider it but not for the job we do now.

Why - to keep people doing the job.

Despite all the cut backs, or perhaps because of it RM still need to keep a core of experienced staff - if wages were at the minimum legal level no one would stay longer than a few months.

Also even with the wages at the current level we still having people leaving after a few days or weeks because the jobs harder than they thought. If we were on minimum wage that would happen a lot more. You pay peanuts you get monkeys working for you, meaning if we were paid less then the company would be in more of a mess than it is now.

I for one would not do this job for £5.73p an hour their is far more better paid and easier jobs than being a postman/postwoman i did it for the hours and the service we provided at onetime not as it is now!.

royal mail would love to give us the minimum wage.but fortunately we have a union that does colllective wage bargaining.which benefits none union staff as well.if you are a postie however and feel guilty for earning your wage you could contribute to several charities if that will give you peace of mind.

Walk the streets for 4 to 5 hours in all weathers or sit in a security cabin watching the tele ,for min wage i know which i would choose (pass the remote )

i think there should also be a sliding scale of wages dependent on how long a service you have.....i personally dont think that someone with say 30 years of time in should be on the same wage as a person who has done 1 year....maybe if Royal Fail paid its staff a loyalty bonus for each year they stayed with them after say a minimum of 3 years it could keep staff that have valuable experience in the different tasks involved in the job 9its a nightmare in my office with the turnover of new staff not knowing how to sort etc) ......also drivers and PHG staff are no longer paid for the different type of skills they have to use (unlike the good old days)

Bexcause they would be entitled to a lot more tax credit and housing benefit, thus taking more out of the state and paying less in.
