Shared Vans problem

A few weeks ago,it would have been a definate yes--but thanks to the Unions dragging their feet,people are starting
to loose faith, and the momentum is lost. I still feel, very sadly, that B.H(Bodily Harm, my new name for him)
is still trying to appease the Management, rather than come out fighting with us.As for van sharing,as someone says, there
will, in most offices, be a discrepancy between the amount of available drivers, and vans.What a nightmare!
I still feel that plan"B" may yet come in to action.for the best part of 3 years, in our office, it has been suggested that when most folks are part timers, the idea is people are to have walks near their homes, and all their mail will be dropped off,
which brings us back to early shifts, and indoor workers plus out door workers--again, i believe this is something
practised in other countries, and which R/M have seriously looked at.
We must fight now.

Would guess the full timer will prep the part timers walk and they wont be allowed to leave office till 9.30 to 10am anyway.

Sadly no, the managers let them go early. The part timers that are paired with full timers have no chance. RM insist on this delivery model and yet let it fail when it suits them, leaving someone with a crappy frame NOT designed for a cycle.

I'll keep this brief.

In our office we have a few people who start at 9am. What would be the position for someone who comes in at 9.00am on a shared van duty and the paired van driver has already buggered off? (not their fault I guess).

Would the 9am start then be expected to work on their own using a frame and setup that has been worked out for a shared van+bursts? As we know, or you'll get to know, the frame's are no longer setup for someone on foot all day. This can make walking the whole route a complete nightmare as you could be down one street then be expected to bugger off a mile away only to then be back to where you started a mile away again. If you have never done the walk before (this will happen to reserves and spares a lot), your screwed.

If your driver has buggered off then its the business job to get you out

the others problems you highlight are a managers problem, if they cannot genuinely see the time you will spend not delivering mail though being paid get your rep onto it, then area then branch then HQ and dont stop till you are satisfied. of course if your not a member you will either need to join, wait till a member flags up the problem or go to the DOM.
