Here's a thought,
I assume that the managers working on friday morning will prioritize delivery of special deliver items?
Just imagine if every postman sent a special delivery on Thursday to themselves how much busier they would and you would also have the advantage of seeing whos delivering on strike day

Oh yeah I like this idea
c'mon everyone it's got to be worth a couple of quid to see what this does and if it doesn't get there can we claim compensation. Got a feeling the post offices might refuse to take them thursday but worth a try.

Guys thanks you have given me a BIG
on my face before I go to bed!
The next few days are the MOST important. This will be seen as a pivotal moment in the history of Royal Mail and the CWU.
GOOD LUCK TO US ALL

It is from numberless diverse acts of courage and belief that human history is shaped. Each time a man stands up for an ideal, or acts to improve the lot of others, or strikes out against injustice, he sends forth a tiny ripple of hope, and crossing each other from a million different centers of energy and daring, those ripples build a current that can sweep down the mightiest walls of oppression and resistance.

The post offices will still probably take special deliveries, but warn customers that it may not arrive at their destination the next day. Counter staff have probably been briefed, or going to be briefed on Wednesday, on what to say to customers who post items on Thursday by special delivery.
Still, it shouldn't stop people posting items. Some may get through on Friday some won't. Worth a try!!
EDIT - Since posting this reply, I've been on the Royal Mail website and found this.

What concerns me after clicking on the link you gave are the following phrases
Access to Royal Mail services is available on strike days - but limited to a single collection from street boxes and Post Office Counters, which may be earlier than the advertised times
Try to avoid posting on the day of any strike, and post early in the day if you really have to
Please post on non-strike days only
They are using the words strike days, which implies that they are expecting to go through a whole series of strikes, and that the same message will be put up on the RM website on each occasion. This is not the sign of an employer that is about to re-open serious negotiations with the CWU anytime soon, if at all
