Shared Vans problem

I'll keep this brief.

In our office we have a few people who start at 9am. What would be the position for someone who comes in at 9.00am on a shared van duty and the paired van driver has already buggered off? (not their fault I guess).

Would the 9am start then be expected to work on their own using a frame and setup that has been worked out for a shared van+bursts? As we know, or you'll get to know, the frame's are no longer setup for someone on foot all day. This can make walking the whole route a complete nightmare as you could be down one street then be expected to bugger off a mile away only to then be back to where you started a mile away again. If you have never done the walk before (this will happen to reserves and spares a lot), your screwed.

Would guess the full timer will prep the part timers walk and they wont be allowed to leave office till 9.30 to 10am anyway.

id be interested in what happens myself, im on a 24 hr contract and mon-thu my start time is 9, as it is i struggle to get a lift out as the packet driver who is supposed to take me out, he is already out delivering and takes the only other guy who needs a lift to this area out already, i will not train to drive a van anyhow, so wheres all these trained drivers going to come from?

I thought you could not drive for RM without getting an assessment perhaps thats what they mean.

We do have assessments for the bigger vans. As far as I am aware anyone with a driving license can drive the combos and similar sized vans.

i think/hope in my office u have to do some training course, they send an assessor to your office etc,, anyhow i aint driving for them fullstop, this van share scheme sounds a right pile of crap, will be interesting to see what happens with all the people who use their own cars.

When we did out van share rial it was a total shambles, pt / ft paired together with different start / finish times there one was always booking OT or waiting for the other to start. However in a office near us they have some duties actually doing the van share for a while now on some duties and they say that if one is ready they go out and come back in when the other is ready and the same for finish times drop one off and the other carries on.

combo's are car derived vans connects,doblo's etc aren't my guess is you would have to have conversion on all , but connects upwards most certainly i'd assume royal fail has an obligation to do this under the bond they have with 'lloyds of london' or whomever ??

I drive all shapes and size vans in our office no ones told me about specific training for the non car derived ones!

If you are unaware of the different types of vehicles royal fail have i'd get union and royal fail clarification (preferably in writing cover you ars*) as to what you need conversion for prior to driving any royal fail vehicle, i've had conversion on all vehicles up to 600 cf and had conversion on what were then car derived small vans as specific small vans eg: connect etc weren't about albeit a while ago !!

There will be alterations made in order to sustain the park and loop - and many "local agreements" made depending on the necessity to preserve the status quo. Believe me needs must when the devil drives - you wouldn't believe the corners cut - two women to a van whenever possible - and that is sexist if you ask me - part timers employed on full time duties in order to maintain this, despite the fact the full timers were moved off their own deliveries to man the park and loop on a "temporary basis" which has now gone on for 10 months. I'm sure if our office had their time over again there is no way they would have entered the park and loop scheme in its present format.

Successful or not this is the new model for deliveries a la RM - all packets, specials, tracked and bulks for that area will be delivered by park and loop, delivery times increased to 4.15 as a minimum - this isn't guesswork - this is happening at my DO now, plus the summer lapsing as well. This had better be a yes vote and the CWU needs to be absolutely positive what it is we are fighting for and no airy fairy agreements and empty promises this time around. Despite the fact that there are 400/500 offices waiting ballots I'm not absolutely sure that a yes vote is guaranteed but I hope it is otherwise ...........................
