Stubborn Royal Mail chiefs provoke new strikes

Around 7,000 postal workers will strike across London tomorrow against Royal Mail's programme of cuts and imposed changes to working conditions.

And another 4,000 workers are set to walk out on Tuesday, as the company continues to refuse to negotiate with their union the CWU

Tomorrow, all delivery workers in London will be on strike except for post codes EC, W1 and WC, while Tuesday and Wednesday will see strike action hit key sites across the capital, including Bow Locks (East London Mail Centre), Mount Pleasant, Nine Elms (South London Mail Centre) and vehicle operating units at East London, Greenford, Nine Elms, Princess Royal, Thurrock and the Airport Mails Unit.

The union's national leadership has offered Royal Mail a three-month moratorium on industrial action in return for a suspension of imposed changes, but the company has, so far, rejected this and other attempts to resolve the dispute.

London divisional rep Mark Palfrey said: "Our members are not going to allow Royal Mail to keep imposing change by diktat.

"We want the company to sit down and negotiate change with our union, but their current stance is giving us no other option but to take strike action in defence of our jobs and the future of our industry."

This time I want a reduction in my working week and more importantly to me, a cease on the constant bullying that is currently the norm (I work hard and I know what work I can and can't do in my available hours and no manager can just decide that I'm wrong without any knowledge of the job).
