It's good to get these types of threads, the ridiculous my manager said bollox, so we can reassure ourselves that while the world is falling apart, Royal Mail managers are still being the low-life C***S they have always been.

The daily grind of having to argue your case with an intellectual pigmy of a line manager is physically and emotionally draining.

Nothing like fighting a dispute with your hands tied behind your back. Not everyone is sharp enough to see thats the case but a good many are. Don't see a unanimous 100% backing for an all out either and none in my DO. I wonder why that is? Could it be high unemployment? shortage of jobs? money? worry that the pension will be buried to save more money? No perish the thought. This time round its more like risking jobs on a throw of the dice and just hoping Ward isn't Scargill Mk 2. After all, he'll be fine. Not his job on the line is it.

Yes ! , let's all accept the Dutch TNT Model , 84 % part - timers with maximum 16 hr contracts , keep the cost of delivery standardized and low as possible , 3 deliveries a week and slash & burn , we'll all be all rightNight Tonic wrote:Nothing like fighting a dispute with your hands tied behind your back. If you want to see how RM works just apply to be a Christmas temporary worker and then you can judge the place for yourself, look at how the managers treat you and others and also judge their management styles. I would never go over to the 'dark side' especially to be a supervisor (sorry! I meant line manager.

very true , they've seen better and seen worse , they'll get an outside looking in view of Royal Fail , that's why Sawyer was critical and C4's Dispatches though distorted had more than a grain of truth in it .mailsort6 wrote:If you want to see how RM works just apply to be a Christmas temporary worker and then you can judge the place for yourself, look at how the managers treat you and others and also judge their management styles. Re: Management
There is SO MUCH un-welcome and resented change happening throughout RM at the moment i would advise against joining right now. The moral is at an all time low and managers will no doubt have to take the worst of peoples high feelings, some deserved and some not. Wrong time to put your head on the block
Rows of houses all bearing down on me........I can feel their blue hands touching me.......All these things in all positions.........All these things will one day take control..........

Yes we talk a lot and democratically decide a lot not just get dictated too by a few (DOM's) and meekly cower away one day and turn up and become He-man the next giving orders too destroy the uk postal service!. While gaining exorbitant bonuses which are pensionable it is obscene in the least and corrupt at worse what other parasite treats it's host with such contempt?.Night Tonic wrote:And some just stay at the bottom, and talk a lot.

Re: Management
Strange you should say that - I was an NCO in the Army, not particularly "regimental" and have been a manager in another industry but have never, even from the start considered moving into management at RM. That would indicate that I am either stupid or sensible.norbert wrote:RM can be a like a zoo and has more than it's fair share of ar**holes and idiots that are totally beyond redemption . However there's a lot of people that have ran things - shop managers , NCO's in the services etc that would be more than capable of taking charge but wouldn't touch RM management with a barge pole .NWpostie wrote:I like it at the bottom, no responsibilities no targets, no getting shafted from both ends, one end is enough, you couldn't drag me over the line, no way would I be a Lino, I would turn into one of them and be a shadow of my former self.
I do enough Bossing in the Military which I actually prefer as there is no avarice and everybody is pretty much straight up.
The ex service people as they've been used to a better chain of command would be able to say what is wrong and how and why .

Well, we don't have a rep for starters and only a couple in the union now. Can't see anyone striking here. Different at neighbouring delivery offices as I work between three at the moment on minimal hours (my choice). I stopped doing full time just under a year ago.

[/quote]Advances? Yes I can see them all. Two to a van, timed walks, full time to part-time, etc etc. As for returement I have exactly three months to go and delivering when most on here were in nappies :)
Few here know real hardship, very few old enough to have experienced it, or know whats really important in life. A pay freeze isn't. Jobs are in short supply. Count your blessings.
