Dreaded Swine Flu

Can anyone give any sort of clarification as to wether any incurred sickness due to swine flu will be added to somebones sick record and counted towards or part of a stage warning. Surprise surprise can't seem to get a straight answer from our manager apparenntly he doesn't know.[ no surprise there standard answer to nearly every question he is asked ]

As far as I know there is no special dispensation for "Swine Flu"and in past articles RM spokespeople have said that Swine Flu absences will be treated the same as all other absences. So basically yes it will be counted - mad ain't it.

If I was to catch swine flu I would happily give it to my DOM on coming into work, and as I'm a part timer who starts after nearly everyone else has left the office thankfully I wont have to pass it on to them.

Typical RM go common sense cause we are advized not to go out if you have it, if you are on stage 2 you will have to try and come in or you will be up for dismissal. Royal Mail the home of Swine Flu Parties

On the night shift we were told that any absence with swine flu wouldn't count towards a stage, then on the weekend shift told that they didnt know, and apparently the late shift have been told it will count towards a stage!! It's mad

I am of sick with swine flu, it is not pleasant, I must not go out for at least a week.
The disturbing thing is that someone else in the DO was also sick with swine flu before me and we were not told.
You are unable to go to work with this most nasty virus as you feel so bad you don!t give a damn about anything.

Hmphh--Although not a noitfiable disese in the U.K, it's interseting to know that technically, if you were exposed to this,
and Managers knew this, by say being aware that a wokmate had it, and failing to advise you-they could legally be charged with causing you bodily harm by knowingly exposing you this--in the same way as exposing you to other H/S factors,

I was thinking that too, I mean if the doctor or the government are telling you stay at home, than surely you don't have a choice to come into work in the first place

so royal mail should change their policy with regards to swine flu,I also don't think they can charge you with a stage warning, it is beyond your control, and I think one could challenge this, if the risk of your job was at threat.

Hi,Is there anyone out there who can help.A colleague at work yesterday sadly found his mother dead at her home.He was the first person on the scene.Obviously he is in total shock and depression,but has been told that he is only enetiltled to 3 days off for loss of next to kin,including a day off for the funeral. He has not got the death certificate yet,as there is to be post mortem. He has been told by the housing association he has 2 weeks to empty all of her belongings and personal items from her flat.He then has to at some point arrange the funeral and obviously,various trips to her solicitors.Is this correct,or what is his entiltlement,He is not in a fit state and should definately not be back at work on wednesday driving.Please can someone help.??

Tell him to get down to the doctors and get a sick line for 2 weeks and work it from there.

Unless it's changed recently, you used to be entitled to 5 days paid Special Leave
for the death of an immediate relative, particularly if you were responsible for
the funeral arrangements, and one more day for the funeral.
You need to speak to your CWU Rep.

My other half works in Government Dept and they are not being treated like that? no swine flu is counted on sick record! That is totally not right! I would look into that.

Better still, what to do is go in with the swine flu, and if they say go home you say no because you cant be put on a stage sick so in turn give it to them and the rest of the office!!!!!!

Agree fully, but also most things that go wrong with the human body are beyond our control

When i lost my father. i was told seven days-because i was resposible for making the funeral arrangements.
some folks i know, in my office ,whe lost people in roughly the same circumstances,were given more time off to cope with the shock and stress.
