09.30 off the road

Post by jaf73 »

This is what i miss about the job rememeber when your last letter was posted at 09.30 when we were on two deliveries. Then have your 40 minute break back the office and sort mail for second delivery. If only we could have seen into the future and realise one delivery was never going to be good for us rrrrrrrrrrrrr to go back to two deliveries IF ONLY then maybe we wouldnt be treated like pack horses by royal mail who only care about one thing or i should say two 1st profit 2nd have a clear office ............ :lfo

I joined RM because I would be finished by 09.45. Part time on a 30 hour contract. I used to be home by 10.00 at the latest, yes it was 6 days a week, but now I'm rarely home before 1.00pm and too knackered to enjoy the extra day off. I'm proud to say I didn't vote for SDD.

its typical r/m propagander they refuse to admit that we are now carrying more mail in our bags because at the mail centers when weighing the mail that is destind for what ever you may work in they are cooking the books .Why do you think we are not weighing the mail like in the olden days Van arrives we wheel the yorkies into our office straight on the scales because they dont want us to know the real truth and this way they can keep on lying to us. On your saturday finish times i used to be finished by 09.00 another good old day gone by never to be seen again

 Yes, and remember how we actually not only wanted overtime, but had the energy to do it! How many folks still put their hands up for 'diversion ' work.? And remember the chocolates we used to get at Christmas?

I got a packet of lettuce seeds(lived in a 2nd floor flat), a car sticker(no car) and 10 stamps.
So keep on moving, moving, moving your feet
Keep on shuf-shuf-shuffling to this ghost dance beat
Just keep on walking down never ending streets

Yes he is right,
one year we were all given packets of seeds for a Xmas bonus.
One lad collected them all off us and gave them all to an old people's allotment.
They appreciated them.

I always remember when I joined RM that a heavy walk consisted of 2 bags of mail.
One bag was the norm [with little in the way of mailsort items]; now I deliver 7/8 bags and instead of finishing in 1.5hrs it takes 3.5 - 4 hrs. Progress?

The atmosphere and banter was excellent in those days.
Most of the managers were 'old posties, and turned a blind eye to most of the antics we got up to. They also knew all the dodges, as they had done them all before us!
If we tried any of them now; it would be on the conduct code or worse.

Sorry for sounding like an oldie, but age creeps up on us all in the end :chuckle

Stand Free.................................

So do I, also not long after that we changed to the new "Royal Mail" cruciform symbol along with a Celebration of the Penny Black, I got a presentation pack with a reproduction Penny Black and a Modern Black stamp along with a coin in a plastic case showing the New RM symbol and Penny Black celebration, I still have it in my loft in its original packaging, I noticed a lot of the lads, ripped the current stamp out and left the rest, except the coins I think they pocketed that, I shake my heads at such short sightedness, I kept mine for Ebay in the future just in case I needed cash and a philatelic collector is willing to pay a lot of money for it.

Royal Mail then was good and it really was the "Good old days" we just didn't see it then, compared to what we get now.

I've still got that Anniversary pack, intact and still in the envelope it came in, do you really think it will be worth anything?

to a collector yes, as to what value I am not sure , that would be "market Value" rarity, intact and the passage of time along with the significance of the item.
One way to find out is to put it on Ebay and see what it comes up with.
