Thing is ...... if its outside its garden in public then what the hell do you do if it does bite you and keep on chasing after you ??? Do you act like an idiot and let it ??? no course not ......... you WOULD have to do something to it . I have a dog ......... LARGE alsation ......... but i always make sure if its out then the property is secure . Some owners just dont have a clue .
After the fact report it too the Police as it is a criminal offence for any dog not to under control in public places. Does not help at the time but at least the owner would get the message.

If you do have loose dogs there is always the option of reporting it your council via email and this website is very good I have used it and got a result within a few days http://www.fixmystreet.com/" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;

deggyg wrote:hi guys and gals, unfortunately i got bitten rather badly by a dog in the front (open plan) garden of someones house last week.first stop was A & E,second stop was the police station, then i rang the office to explain what had just happened.i have done the accident form, over the phone with my line manager, but apart from that i haven't heard anything.the 2 union reps we have in our office are both on leave.some colleauges at work have imformed me that if im off for more than 7 days with a dog bite im entitled to some sort of compensation fund.i haven't heard of this so does anyone know anything and how do i go about claiming.i asked my line manager but he denied there was such a thing,so im confused, any help please, thanx
Do you get sick pay?. If not you can get statutory sick pay from the DWP i think it is about £96 a week for full time!. As to the fund see if anyone else knows of it i wish i did for i got bit a while ago good luck and get well soon!.
Sorry to butt in and I'm only trying to help but SSP is not based on a job being full time but the on the amount you actually earn. If you earn an average of £90 a week, you will receive it. I thought only got about 72 quid a week. The reason I know this is because on a one hour contract, I got the full amount based on my going over the threshold (check DWP site for full info)
In fact when I left, I stayed on sick leave until the very day I started a new job. It's better than JSA but then again, long term sick doesn't look good on job application form, then come to mention it, the bit where they ask you why you left your last job doesn't make pretty reading when you had to take your shoddy employers to an ET. :Very Happy

Also, don't mention, when claiming JSA, that you are in dispute with a former employer as it adds weeks for your benefit to come through.

FYI, I'm not a scrounger, just off to work in a minute

Has he actually said he will issue the stage - if he does unfortunately you cannot contest it. AFAIK they can still issue you a stage if they believe your actions, or lack of action had any contributing factors to the accident at least thats how RM read it

Sometimes the language managers use is inaccurate and he may actually have meant he is going to have the interview to discuss the stage 1 - he has to - but may not issue it as it is an AOD.

If he does issue the Stage - ask for all copies of the paperwork, advise him you may wish to add a written statement and leave it at that. If you write the statement make sure you keep a copy with your copies of the Stage paperwork as this may help if things snowball and you face a Stage 3 RTU or even a tribunal.

Don't panic though he may not even issue it.

There is no right of appeal at Stage 1 or Stage 2 - a state of affairs I disagree with vehemently as it goes against natural justice IMHO. However, you may think about putting in a grievance against the issuing manager, though that does bring its own problems. If you want to go this route I would suggest talking to your rep to make sure your fully aware of your rights, obligations and the pitfalls from taking 1 out.

Management's line is that Stage 1/2 warnings are just a reminder that they expect you to attend for work regularly. The only sanction is at Stage 3 level, and that's dismissal -- a big jump. But since the earlier warnings are viewed as a reminder I doubt you will get any joy out of a grievance (I am right am I not in assuming you are not at stage 3?).

I think you should keep all the paperwork, and a diary of events. In the future, if you have to have more time off and the worst comes to the worst, it may help.

On the other hand you may have a decent manager. They do exist. Four years ago I had some time off because of a work-related problem. I went back and the manager called me in for the return-to-work interview and had the warning letters printed out ready for him to sign. He tore them up in front of me.

Hope all goes well for you deggyg.

It's good to get these types of threads, the ridiculous my manager said bollox, so we can reassure ourselves that while the world is falling apart, Royal Mail managers are still being the low-life C***S they have always been.

The daily grind of having to argue your case with an intellectual pigmy of a line manager is physically and emotionally draining.
