new packet template
Here in Newton Abbot we are in our 6 week bedding in period with our new rounds. As a walking postman i have a daily battle with the packet van driver as to what i can and cant take. some of the packets will not even fit into my pouch but the manager says we have to stick to the template. Who on earth made the template up as it is totally unrealistic to some of the packets we have to take. The manager says we have to break our bags down to handle these items which leads to more bags and more time which leads to breakoffs that they will not agree to!! Every day is now a struggle to cope and i am now going home after delivery totally exhausted. After 22 years in royal mail i am totally bemused by how much of a battering us walkers can take. Is anyone else in the same boat?

It's good to get these types of threads, the ridiculous my manager said bollox, so we can reassure ourselves that while the world is falling apart, Royal Mail managers are still being the low-life C***S they have always been.

The daily grind of having to argue your case with an intellectual pigmy of a line manager is physically and emotionally draining.

Re: new packet template
We don't use ours either. Luckily I have a good driver and I regularly take over size packets, if I can fit them in my bag, even if it means I need more bags. In return he doesn't think twice about taking smaller packets that I know I won't be able to deliver. It also doesn't matter how many bags I have, he'll have them to me on time, usually no more than a couple of minutes late. On the very rare occasion that he is late, I know it's because he's been held up somewhere. All it takes is a bit of respect for each other.
I know that isn't the case for most people, even in my office there are drivers who refuse to take anything smaller than a fridge, likewise there are walkers throwing up packets the size of a matchbox. Sometimes I despair about human nature. Too many people think only of themselves.

If you have such an agreement unwritten as it is it is commendable i too have some who will work with me on the same basis but others their time will come!.pinstripe wrote:We don't use ours either. Re: new packet template
The template is supposed to be 'It has to fit all ways' not 'It has to fit any way' otherwise you could be carrying out poster tubes

But sometimes weight not size and if it is a hazardous object comes in to the equation!.disgruntledpostie1 wrote:The template is supposed to be 'It has to fit all ways' not 'It has to fit any way' otherwise you could be carrying out poster tubes

Re: new packet template
Anything that protrudes from the pouch is to be given to the driver i for one would be extremly anoyed if you turned up on my doorstep and gave me a 'tube' that had been out in the elements (rain) for some time. Infact i would be reporting you to your dim dum and would expect him to disipline you for doing that after all we don't know the value of these items and they could even be irreplaceable...remember it's customer first ! but there again you have your car to deliver them afterwards yea

Re: new packet template
And that is the crux of the matter, we should work with each other, not team working or such RM nonsense, but just 2 work mates actively trying not to make each others work harder, let's leave that to :cfo and :mfok979aaa wrote:If you have such an agreement unwritten as it is it is commendable i too have some who will work with me on the same basis but others their time will come!.

Re: new packet template
seriously, for years in our office all these things have been transported on our backs, and create havoc trying to fit them in to pouch boxes.otherwise, we have to get Managers to sign off packets we cannot fit in,but only after they have checked that is the case.Even then, despite the signing off, some packet guys fling it back!!!Same with L'P records etc.

Re: new packet template
Yet again this morning i had a disagreement with the rural driver who delivers my oversize packets. I cant blame him as he has to deliver these packets prior to going out on his usual rural round. These packets have just been given to him as extra work just like i have taken on an extra half an hour due to geo route totally changing all our rounds. Like yesterday i went out on delivery with my pouches heaving and packets protuding from it. The same response comes back from the manager which is the template decides. My customers now receive their mail nearer 2 o clock rather than 9 o clock. No wonder the germans, dutch etc are queuing up to have a piece of us. I, for one, will not be wearing lederhosen on delivery.
