It depends on whether ou drive or not. If you drove to work. Then you need to get back there, to collect your car. :hmmmm

When I finish I start walking back to the office (its about 20/30mins back depending how knackered I am). two things normally happen either I get picked up on route by someone heading in in a van or I walk all the way back. When asked about it the following morning i.e. extra OT I used to say well I phoned for lift but no one came so walked. This went on for 3 weeks, now nothing is said and I continue the same process daily. If I was to catch a bus which I sometimes do when its to hot to walk in it take about 45mins to get back and even then the bus don't quite get as far as the DO. If I have to be finished on time I factor in walking back in so as I finish at 14:45 I factor my last letter as 14:15 as I don't very often get out until 11:15 ish you can imagine how much gets cut offs (I cut off at least every Thursday as my wife works and I need to collect kids from school).
Why do you finish so late ?? Most of us ( even those that dont use their cars ) are in the house for 12.30 pm .

We can start about 8.30 am once we lapse and that gets done at 8am .
I don't start until 9:45 anything before that constitutes me working for free and there is no chance i'm doing that.

Since SDD its been finish and go home for us, thats 10-15 minute bus ride once I have pouched off at the PO.

I asked the gaffer why other offices had to return to the office after their walks were done and he was stumped too, mind that doesnt take much.
Our office doesn't pouch off, if you have packets you can't deliver, recordeds, registered or even confirming delivery cards all need to be returned to DO so a large number of posties in our office need to go back, most use their own cars to transport themselves and unfortunately their pouches as well.

I understand that, but why?

Surely even the dumbfucks at RM can see its easier for everyone if you just pouch off and go home?

Well the question has been asked, the answers were that the DOM doesn't like pouching off, most duties the DO is closer than the nearest PO, particularly true since they closed most of them, and i think they once tried to throw in about SD needing to be confirmed by 1pm so they need proof of delivery cards back, and now of course to give the early finishers something more to do when they finish early.

If you drive into work and leave your car at the office then there should be time in duties for you to come back to pick the car up in your duty time.

Oh and soon the 15mins back to the office time that i have said we dont use is going to be put to the test very soon. :dance

As far as I'm concerned, my place of work is the DO and I'll start and finish there.

I wouldn't worry too much about it though because in the future we'll all have the PDAs they WILL have to be returned to the office everyday (on a note about the PDAs, I had a delivery made by DHL the other day and I was shock when I saw their PDA, the size of a largeish mobile phone, light and comfortable to hold and it had a keyboard that actually worked).

Apparently some Parcel Force drivers are already testing them out, but your right about being another 10 years before we get them, after all they will want to get their money's worth out these heaps of junk first.

The current batch of PDAs wont last more than a couple of years, the screens on ours are mostly scratched beyond repair because of people leaning too hard on them (the training should have emphised a lightness of touch but unfortunalty only included the pin numbers and how to input it).
