No this is not the 1 minute test you put all your mail in the frame letters flats sort your packets out and it is worked out on the time it takes you and the amount of items you have to deliver.

The same is happening in my office, 25 letters per minute for the entire prep time  , the managers all seem to think it's really easy (but any frame they prep is both slow and badly done).

How comes you're having to do this then, has there been problems ect.
And they can't just sack you btw, ignore that s**t.

It's good to get these types of threads, the ridiculous my manager said bollox, so we can reassure ourselves that while the world is falling apart, Royal Mail managers are still being the low-life C***S they have always been.

The only test the Union recognises is the 1 minute test. AFAIK this can be used on either IPS or delivery frames. You should be handed a counted bundle of letters, told to start and finish, whatever you have prepped is taken as your average rate, eg 25 per minute. If you are below the standards expected you will firstly be offered training to achieve the required standard, your managers are talking rubbish, pure and simple.
I also doubt that this is a national thing, RM has more than enough to cope with, what with strikes everywhere, still if they have some more spare managers needing work I'm sure there are some car parks needing a good sweeping, I've heard that they are good at sweeping things, usually under carpets.

Im afraid they aint regognizing any agreed standards and are going to press ahead with these unagreed unacheivable and unreasonable sorting rates. Its all about bullying our members into not cuting off and not putting in O/T we have already got members going threw the conduct code for willfull delay so if your office aint been balloted or is in for a ballot you better ask your rep or area rep WHY.

It all sounds really silly to me.

Surely, if you can't do 24 letter per minute ... non-stop ... for 2 hours, then they have failed to train you properly?

The thing about the sorting standards is that they are only being applied to those of us who make ourselves targets by speaking out, unless the management apply the rules to everyone then they cannot use it to discipline you (at least lawfully).

If not already happining in your office it will be shortly!!

Our office has already been balloted for this same reason as there is no agreement on a throughput basis but RM have set there budget targets on this unachievable standard so when staff cannot meet this and woud like to finish on time poor performance is to blame and intimidation becomes the norm.Currently taking IA every sat morning at 9.00 for this reason going into our sixth sat this weekend
