how much notice...

Post by savo »

How much notice ( if any required ) are DOMs supposed to give you if you are being moved off a duty temporarily ?

I just signed for my own walk, started on it this week, and thought my days of being messed around might be over.
Got back to office today after completing walk, and theres a written note stuck on PHG office saying that i am covering a different rural tomorrow....

Its one i have done a week or so on previously about 6 months ago, although the frame has changed since then to accomodate part of lapsed town duty, and i have given my notes away to a fella whos on leave ( believe me, you need notes for some of our rurals else you might need a distress flare when you get lost !!! )

I,m pi$$ed off that its always the same people who get messed about, while others stay on their own duty for years on end without being moved.... the excuse is always that they dont know any other walks..... WELL FECKIN TRAIN EM UP ON OTHER WALKS THEN !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Ill sleep on it now, but probably kick it all off in the morning when i see who is down to do MY duty.

Well, original question is academic now.... shortest day i have ever done @ RM, in at 06:30, weighed things up, out @ 06:35. Told PHG to tell Dom i have quit...

Sad in a way, but feel like a huge weight lifted off my shoulders, turned all the phones off today so i can start to plan for the future, will definately look in here regularly, and want to extend my good will and best wishes to everyone still fighting.

savo, I did the same thing just a couple of weeks before my 60th birthday this year. No hanging around for EVR, just got out. When I came into RM the Senior men in those days all reckoned they had seen the best of this job but this time it really is fecked.

Glad to be out. Good luck everyone !

I did the same in my last job its amazing how less stressed you feel when you finally make a decision after mulling it over for so long. Good you see you will stay a member as you wont be looking over your shoulder and self amending posts just in case.

Too true True Blue--eh!--never know if there are managers on these forums phishing around.

How did it come to this?

Posties, either indoor or on delivery always had the opportunity to earn a decent living, got a flier most of the time, customers got a good service AND RM made a good profit.

Schadenfreude from the top.

Would it not be better just to go sick for a while (stress is a terrible thing).

True, but at my age I can do without the build up of horse dung thrown at you at the Back to Work interview and do I really want all the back stabbing, late finishes and STRESS, working with so called colleagues who start their duty 1 hour early, unpaid, driving LDV Maxus vans which were scrap before leaving the factory. Being bollocked by wet behind the ear Managers for scanning a box 1 minute early............. Err no!

I walk, cycle and drive for my own convenience and pleasure now.

On the long term sick thingy ........ Would you just goto your doc and tell him ur stressed ??

Also how long can you get away with that for without the bosses gettin on ur back .

Not for me BTW for my friends waiting in the aisles about to leap on me .

Theres a bloke in our place doin it and hes getting away with murder ........... you see him walkin about most days with the top off walking his dog or coming out the pub :left:

Actually if he is stressed exercising the dog and meeting friends in the pub are both good things when dealing with stress:

http://www.goodtoknow.co.uk/health/2686 ... -physical-" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;
Charles Linden, stress and anxiety expert says: 'Exercise is vital to stress reduction and the best mental health, however it is vital that stress levels are kept low in the evening to ensure a restful night's sleep. Try to keep exercise at a level which leaves you feeling relaxed and calm, anything too vigorous can increase stress levels again.'
Stress and anxiety expert, Charles Linden says: 'Accepting help is a matter of pride but more importantly, asking for help, which most of us find difficult, is vital when stress levels rise.

If you don't ask, you won't get. Stress sufferers aren't weak, they keep going to breaking point, weak people fall at the first hurdle, recognise their limits and recover. Only strong people develop high stress levels because they soldier on and rarely ask for help. It's vital that you too recognise your weaknesses and ask for assistance where you need it'

One of the treatments for stress/depression is exercise and another one is social interaction, so walking the dog would've been recommended by his doctor/ATOS.

I can sympathise with your predicament but the sick/stress thingy WILL come to an end and then what ?
If, by the time you return to work you are not already on reduced earnings, RM may try to suggest that you are "not fit for purpose" and pull every trick out the book to squeeze you out. Have some time off, on your return--refreshed I hope--do the job properly, be pleasant and cheerful when telling your DOM that you will be cutting in order to finish on time and never be negative in your dealings with him/her.
The flexibility thingy that will be thrown at you is only a maximum of 30 minutes either side of your normal duty start/finish times and you must be given reasonable notice. "A reasonable request" cuts both ways.
The worse case scenario, as Mr Crozier wants, is for you to work your duty hours less your meal reliefs and acceleration time to/from your walk , you are not compelled to do OT.

Don't blink first! Good luck.
