Just another example of this caring employer. :no no :no no :no no :cfo
Don't panic it's standard and automatically done from up the road, although some managers will pull the bloke to one side, mention it and say it's being sent back.
If it's issued then it's a different story.I would expect a walk out!

It's good to get these types of threads, the ridiculous my manager said bollox, so we can reassure ourselves that while the world is falling apart, Royal Mail managers are still being the low-life C***S they have always been.
My BFF Clash
The daily grind of having to argue your case with an intellectual pigmy of a line manager is physically and emotionally draining.

That's the letter your office send. Completely different. One says something like, "Sorry to hear you are ill. etc ". The one referred to by the original post is the stage letter generated by HR.

Listen, I HATE the RM management ethic, it stinks and it is against ,in my opinion, human rights, but I am fair and you are getting the letters mixed up. Yes, if you have a death in the family then you shouldn't t get a letter from anyone. But This company is massive an HR just play by the rules as I think we would want them to. They sent me a letter regarding my sickness, but are actually backing me in my grievance against the manager that bought it on.

could ? be argued that it is unfair detriment for legitimate trade union activity , RM will go to great lengths to disguise it but they usually trip themselves up as they are too keen to impress more senior managers

Really?
They did use Unofficial I/A against me in a stage warning, back in the '90's. Although I know that they can't use Official I/A against you, as it's legitiate Union activity.

Well we took unofficial IA in London for over a week in 2003, and AFAIK noone had a stage
warning as a result.
After all we're not getting paid when we're on IA, whether offical or not.

Sorry, I didn't explain myself very well. What I meant was: I had a short sick absence, and they used the fact that I'd been on Unoficial I/A against me, when they decided to give me a Stage Warning.

Sour grapes by management!. When they all go on strike next year i will be the first too cross their picket-line if they can be bothered too turn up on time and not go home early!. The management cull will be huge next year!.

Don't tell IWW. He's made his views about Strike Breakers very plain, and it 'aint pleasant! :chuckle

But seriously: Why would you descend to that level?
Surely you must realise that Picket Lines are there for a reason. People don't Strike just for the fun of it. Unions have achieved a great deal for us over the years, and Picket Lines should always be respected. Even if you vheomently disagree with the reasons for it.

Over the years, there have been occasions when I've stood on a Picket Line, when I have been totally against the reasons for it. Why?
Because Unions are a Democracy. The majority wanted to Strike. So I stood there with my Brothers and Sisters. Even when we were asked to Strike because some fool had been caught drinking a can of Beer in the cab of his RM Truck, and was suspended as a result! Quite frankly, I don't believe that he deserved any support. After wanting to take a 38 Ton Artic out on the road, after drinking alcohol. But the majority wanted to support him, so I did.

He was found to be "under the limit", and was soon back at work. But my point is: If there's a Picket Line don't cross it! How can you expect others to suffer hardships to support you, if you aren't willing to do the same for them. Even if it's for another Union, that you aren't a member of. A Picket Line, is a Picket Line. Don't cross it!
