Doing the job properly....or not.
Why do people working for the machine which is Royal Mail come into work early? Why do they not take their breaks? Why do they use their cars? Why do they rush around, jumping hedges with bags weighing that of a tractor tyre!?
WHAT DO THEY BENEFIT?
As far as I can see absolutely nothing. Probably not even a thanks. So why do it?
The only reason I can think of is they are scared to draw attention attention to themselves as they are clearly not capable of doing the job. We have to make them realise it is not their fault they can't do the job but the regime aka Royal Mail. We have got to work together and we have to get everyone on board. People not doing the job right aren't only ruin the job for themselves but every single person that works for Royal Mail regardless of their working practices. We all wanna be able to come into work and try enjoy our day and go home. NO ONE should have to come in early, use their car or not take their break to make up for Royal Mail's mistakes. We absolutely have to stand up people. I'm only in the job just over 9 years and I've never ever seen a company decline so drastically.......the worse thing is, it is only gonna get worse if we don't show Royal Mail how much work day in, day out they are getting for free!
Coming in 30 mins early for 5 days each week is 2.5 hours a week, 10 hours a month! That probably works out somewhere near 2.5 weeks a year (that's only if they take their a/l)! TWO AND A HALF WEEKS SOME PEOPLE WORK FOR FREE A YEAR! THAT'S LIKE MAYBE AN EXTRA £600 IN YOUR POCKET! Would you burn 30 crisp Bank of England £20 notes? No I hear you cry! Well that's exactly what your doing coming in early! On top of this the same people that are coming in early probably use their cars and don't take their breaks. The money they are saving Royal Mail just rises and rises and they don't even get so much as a 'thanks'. Come on people, I beg you to get into the real world. We all know the job is hard but absolutely NO ONE has to come in early to work and work for free. I pray for the day that every postie in the land does the job as it should be, cause the people at the top will well and truly get their big painted on eyes opened and their big cloth ears widened!
Rant over.

Re: Doing the job properly....or not.
I agree with all your sentiments, especially the one about people coming in early because they can't get the job done otherwise and they don't want to end up defending themselves against a management witchhunt.
That doesn't include the useless ones who come in early and cut corners because they really can't do the job at all.

What about on the light days when theres nothing in and you click for an hour. Do you join the long queue of people at the managers door to let them know you finished early and when you will be able to give them that hour back? Or do you not want to do the job that properly?

Re: Doing the job properly....or not.
The fact that RM are incapable at scheduling the mail so that we get a constant amount every day is not the posties fault. This getting no mail one day then getting humped the next just shows you how incompetent the people up the food chain are.randolf wrote:What about on the light days when theres nothing in and you click for an hour. Re: Doing the job properly....or not.
What light days? There's only been one day this year that I've finished early (and that's only because it was a specialist duty that was set up for 3 hours), most days I cut off because most of the duties are too long (6hours plus).randolf wrote:What about on the light days when theres nothing in and you click for an hour. Sci_dog whilst i agree with what you say the people who come in late every day....go off to the toilet for 20 mins when its time to go on the IPs....have numerous fag breaks....hold onto missorted items and local redirections till you have bagged up and given your bags to the drivers....cant be found when the missort retreval comes in but are always first at the locker to get there specials....dawdle around on there walks unless they have to be at an appointment or go to football for an early kick off (then they are like ussain bolt on speed to get finished)
in my opinion they are just as bad as those who fly around all the time

Royalmail used the carrot and donkey approach before it suited them and the donkeys for job and Finnish now that has gone the big stick will be used instead of the carrot!.

Re: Doing the job properly....or not.
the biggest problem in royal mail is that some posties run round just like they have done for years but nowadays its not job and finish in a lot of offices so all they are doing is giving rm the chance to make the walks bigger and bigger.

I'll give it back when I stop seeing RM managers saying to staff that its "swings and roundabouts" when they work past there time and try to claim O/Trandolf wrote:What about on the light days when theres nothing in and you click for an hour. Now RM have not got to take my word for it, they can go into any office and enforce the things that I have said, but they fail to do so, I wonder why?

Re: Doing the job properly....or not.
We have Long and shorts so quiet days I finish on time just like I do on busy days and I walk at the same pace on both types.randolf wrote:What about on the light days when theres nothing in and you click for an hour. If I did finish early and we were told to return to the office till the agreed finishing time I would, in fact that would be fairer in my opinion as they allow 15 minutes travelling time at the end of the duty but it takes me up to 1/2 an hour sometimes, and in fairness sometimes 10 minutes it depends on the Bus company. I will happily work all paid hours and not finish early when they start treating us with respect and give us the right tools and equipment to be able to do the job in the time they want it done.

Are we in the same office? The part timer who comes in 2hrs early ,unpaid ,and couldn't possibly go on strike because of his family commitments ,but finishes early and then spends the next 10hrs shooting american germans on line

Re: Doing the job properly....or not.
Sadly none. You could tell everyone in your office to do the job properly, everything to signing in/out, weighing bags, taking meal breaks, but none that i have mentioned will make any difference what so ever. They choose to ignore the fact that not just themselves but every one around them that RM will put more work on to their backs if they decide to come in early.NWpostie wrote:considering what we are up against whats the solution ?
There are many reasons why some people come in early but its no excuse.
