Nothing to do with insurance. If you're on RM duty then you're covered.
More to the point is the fact that in RM staff were never allowed to resume duty on an O/T shift after A/L or sick leave. That was the ruling from HR for years, but then like so many rules in this firm, it can be conviently forgotten as required especially as the ex-postie masquerading as a manager can bleat that he's never heard of it....

Yes, you're right. Although, we were always told that those of us who had S/A Contracts, had to do their S/A, even if it was on the first day back.

But the question seemed to be, was he covered by the Insurance, which is a completely different issue.

Taking Leave
Employees may not attend the office whilst on annual or other leave. This means that employees may not attend the office to work overtime or Scheduled Attendance.

Annual leave may not be taken as an alternative to sick leave (except where it runs concurrently with it in the case of extremely long absences in order to satisfy legal requirements). Employees who have been off sick must not start annual leave unless they have recovered, and should notify the office of their recovery before starting any annual leave. Annual leave cannot be recorded as sick leave if an employee falls sick during it, unless a medical certificate is produced.

Where time or days off in lieu are earned, they way in which this may subsequently be taken as time off work will continue to be determined locally.
The Way Forward

May I also say that The Way Forward states that if a full time duty is available than the first option is to offer to the most senior Part Timer. However Part timers will not be offered full time work because Royal Mail want a majority part time workforce. It is our union that is balloting to get them to honour the way forward agreement. If you want to leave the union because they are not fighting for part time rights than you are seriously mistaken

It's good to get these types of threads, the ridiculous my manager said bollox, so we can reassure ourselves that while the world is falling apart, Royal Mail managers are still being the low-life C***S they have always been.

The daily grind of having to argue your case with an intellectual pigmy of a line manager is physically and emotionally draining.

and as for the union I'm too thinking about leaving it because apart from take our money they don't seem to stand up for part-timers, trying to get made up to full-time.. :arrrghhh
At the moment FTs walks are being made PT all over the country so at the moment the battle has to be to try and keep the ratio of FTs above 60/40 otherwise no one will ever be made up. However, I feel I have to point out that its RM who are attacking FT posts not the CWU, the more PTs who support the CWU by speaking out about injustices like this, attend meetings and/or talk to other members and reps the stronger the Union will be in your Unit and the more likely they will be able to defend your T&Cs or change practices that you and others disagree with.

If you see a problem as a member of the Union then don't rely completely on your rep, do your bit as well to change things, after all a Unit rep does not get paid anything by the Union, he/she is doing it volunatrily. The only benefit they should get is release time when required and sometimes in my Office even this is hard to get.
OK thanks for your advice, will try take you advice, but all i know is that in the past 4 years no part timer has been made up to full time in my office..
