FRIENDS and family of a popular Cwmavon man who died earlier this year have set up a new charity in his name.
The Mathew Mizen Foundation aims to raise money for members of the community who were served by the 25-year-old on a daily basis in his capacity as village postie.
Mathew, from Heol Crwys, was well known throughout his village after working as a postman for eight years and featuring regularly on the wing for Cwmavon RFC.
He died at Singleton Hospital on January 3, following a mystery illness, and hundreds turned out for his funeral at Margam Crematorium in January.
His 55-year-old dad Rhidian said: "We set up the company to raise money for any organisations or clubs in Cwmavon. If pensioners want a bus to organise a day trip they can come to us, or if the gardening club want us to fund a new project they can make an application. We want to provide for the young and old in the village."
