really really pissed off

Post by andy.m »

really pissed off today, im getting to the end of my tether with my DOM and even a couple of colleagues. heres the thing. ok, ve been here 9 months now, and the 4 hours walks came in so i was made a reserve. but a full timer with his own walk has been off on special leave since marche, and have covered his walk up until present. my dom basically said i would be on the walk "for the forseeable future" a while back. now since we starting summer lapsing, the guy on the walk that has been getting lapsed became pissed off at getting moved around everytime we lapsed so, my manager, as im only as reserve took me off this walk and put this other guy on it, until the summer lapsing is finished. im not pissed off at that bit at all, after all hes more seniority than me. for the last few days ive been on a different walk everyday, with me being moved to another office, and only getting back 10 mins ago. my mager says to me me ill be on a certain walk, so I come in normal time, start boxing the walk in, only be told, im being moved to another walk. yesterday really angered me. he moved me 5 DIFFERENT walks before keeping me on one. pissed off at this guy that took over from my walk because i go in yesterday and my dom tells me ill be out in the van delivering packets, so i say thats fine, fairly chuffed, this guy hears me tell another colleague that im on packet duty, and instantly rushes to my dom office and obviously tells him he wants to do the packet duty, although he comes out the office claiming he was asking for holidays, my dom the follows out 2 mins after telling me theres a change of plan and id be better on the walk ive done. this packet duty has someone on it but they are off sick, so now ive been moved back to my original walk and this guy has been put on it. im f***ing raging. the thing is once the packet dutys proper guy comes back from sick he`ll go straight back on to this walk again and back to the start. i wouldnt mind but hes complained that his walk gets lapsed so he gets moved to mine, then when i get a "decent duty" hes a f***ing snake and worms his way to get it off me. its really getting to me now, i hate goin into work now because i dont know what walk im on or nothing :mfo

Really sympathise with you bud, i reckon that anyone who started in the job in the last 5 years or so would agree that the first 12 months are the worst as you get messed about constantly, there were several times in my first year when i was on the verge of leaving, but when you have a family and mortgage you have to bite the bullet...

Personally, if i was ever in a position where i thought i was being stitched up, then i would make one hell of a row about it, didnt always get it sorted there and then, but they would think twice about doing it in the future. Folks who just take the $hit that is dished out end up getting walked all over, it is a dog eat dog world in RM and its getting worse.

have been a spare for 2 yrs since moving office, been frustrating at times, but start my own walk next week, looking forward to knowing where i will be every week and knowing what my day off will be.... but having said that, the lapsing and summer savings b0ll0x keeps on coming..

Hope you get through the other side of this bad time you are going through mate.

Join the club mate and I am not having a go at you when I say it.

I do not even get to know what my day off will be until a few days after the week has already started. Not taking it tomorrow it's no way to run a service or business.

For example I have been on the same walk for two weeks, next week someone else who has never done the walk is being put on that. So we now have TWO people doing walks they have never done before instead of one!

Genius!
Run, rabbit run. Dig that hole, forget the sun.
And when at last the work is done. Don't sit down, it's time to dig another one

We had a bloke today put on a walk he had never done before, no training, the promised maps never appeared... he didnt even know where the drop bags were.

He did the right thing, cut off, bought about 5 specials back, and there were 2 drop bags missing in action,

temporary DOM had to get out and sort it all.

This seems to be a problem all over the place my advice is get on to your rep to get involved on the staffing of the office they are supposed to have a weekly S.I meeting with the dom and this is mandatory requirement for all offices if your rep is not getting involved get in touch with your area rep.

Sadly i ve seen this done on one of our easier firms deliveries. The reserve guy was moved off to a pretty crap walk and the firms was given to a 30 year man who then took his own walk out on OT. He was well peed off (and can you blame him) and the the DOMs attitude was "well he will prob quit on us anyway" Typical :arrrghhh

I sympathise with you and anyone on here thats being s**t upon from a great height
im glad i work in an office where all our reserves are treated reasonably well.....they pick the walks that are going on a weekly rotation so that every few weeks that get 1st choice so will pick the easiest for that period (our reserves are used to cover the walks that do a 6 day week and then get a week off every 6 weeks....we also have rest day cover but they dont get shifted at all)....the only time they may be shifted is if something comes up unexpectedly and its easier to cover there duty that day on overtime.
they are then given extra prep time to help and know most of the duties anyway so its not to much of a hardship
as i said in a previous post this seems to work because our managers are good and treat us quite well

Why should old timers get all the crap. Theyv'e earned the right to get the better walks. It's not as easy for an older person to do the same as a youngster. And no I'm not an old timer.

Why the hell should old timers get all the easy walks ? Why do they deserve it ? do we not all do the same job ? some people come out with absolute bollocks on here, just because they have been here a few years longer they think they deserve everything. well they dont, its not our fault they never got out while they were younger and are all bitter about chances they could of had and whats happening now with the royal mail and all that rubbish. This is a job we get paid better than most other jobs and everyone who works for the royal mail should do exactly the same. No wonder there are splits in offices up and down the country with an attitude like that!

So you would be quite happy for a 60 year old to run up flights of stairs and maybe collapse when a 20 year old could be doing it. Be practical.
