DUNFERMLINE postal workers claim unfair harassment by management over mail sorting figures is driving them to an extra strike.
Mail workers will go on strike tomorrow (Friday) from 3.30pm until 10pm on Sunday after management set sorting figures targets that staff and union officials believe are unachievable.
Dunfermline will also join 16 individual offices around Scotland planning a 24-hour stoppage on 17th July.
Area delivery rep for Fife and Central Scotland, Mark Newton, said, “Our members on longer or harder deliveries who are not able to finish their delivery and need to put overtime in are being subject to mail counts.
“Management are then claiming they are not sorting mail quick enough so they won’t pay for overtime and, if they cut off on the day, they will charge them with wilful delay of the mail, which is a sackable offence. ”
A Royal Mail spokeswoman claimed mail would continue to be collected and delivered to customers while strike action was taking place.
She said, “The notification Royal Mail has received from the Communication Workers Union for the proposed industrial action in Dunfermline on Friday is about the introduction of unagreed efficiency changes within the delivery office and has not stated any information about alleged treatment by managers.”
