Our office would need 16 of those on top of the 5 vans they already have, where they gonna put them??

Will be great to see the fight to get to the dock first as it only accomodates 4 vans any one time.

Plus I heard there will be one off the road every 9 days.

And they cant afford them.

Not at all . Couldnt be further from the truth . To be honest .... in my office not one person objects to people using cars .

just this morning I took 3 guys out to do lapsing and took them back when finished . They couldnt be happier so in my eyes and theirs there is nothing wrong .

Calpsy, when everything goes ok, you have got away with it, when something do go wrong, you will be left on your own, i.e. stolen, broken into, towed away etc, Royal Mail will try to wash their hands off you, Royal Mail's first priority is to protect the business, you're just a number.

something to consider..

sorry mate but its not breaking the law and its not self employed thats bollocks however the people who do use their cars can claim tax relief for business mileage

http://www.hmrc.gov.uk/mileage/index.htm" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;

personally dont agree with them being on delivery but is not illegal, also the person would need to have proper business insurance which specifically covers transport of mail and not just "plain" business insurance
IMHO this is where the problem really lies. Because RM have gone to the trouble of making this Policy, and covering Posties for Business Use (only if they follow procedure). People think it's ok to use them. But the real problem, is that not everyone follows procedure. So in those cases, they aren't insured. Then there's the cost of tyres, servicing, petrol, etc., etc.. which goes up, because of the extra mileage. And of course, the money lost through depreciation, due to the higher mileage, as well.

So the problem as I see it, is: Those who either don't want to, or can't afford to use their car. Are being put under emense pressure to start/go back to, using their cars, so they can keep up with those who already do. :hmmmm

best and only thing to do is rm get vehicles so people can use them instead of their own vehicles.. end of scene.

looks like rm got onto a winner from their angle - but they will drop you like a stone if anything goes wrong.

tax breaks and bit of money do not add up to the extra costs throughout the year. if rm pay someone £500 a year for using their car, tyres, petrol, extra insurance cost etc doesn't amount to this. 4 tyres cost £300+ i know usually the two front ones are the first to go, and if they're just in the limit at mot time, how many leave them go for a little bit longer?

rm have been taking the p1ss, the posties let rm take the p1ss. and because of the unusual willingness of rm staff to use their cars, makes rm think that if you do it, so should everybody else. and that is a situation which pressurises your fellow workers into using their cars.

sorry to say this, people who use their cars cause krap and unpleasentness for your fellow workmates and play into rm hands and mess things up for everybody across the board.

rm should be using their own vehicles to convey staff anyway. have rm helped you save money? no.. so why should you help rm save money by using your own car and put the public/rm staff in peril
and here comes avi cohen! oh i say! at the same end, he's got one back!!
