I'm surprised she wasn't found sooner - the electric and gas companies, the community tax for the council surely something like this couldn't have gone on so long unnoticed by someone

I'm surprised someone didn't notice the smell.

The neighbours obviously were'nt bothered, if this old lady cleaned the brass in the hall and kept the front garden tidy surely someone should've noticed something was wrong. Not such a close knit community as they all seem to make out.

Exactly! But I suppose they didn't want to admit to the press that they simply didn't care.k66yla wrote:The neighbours obviously were'nt bothered, if this old lady cleaned the brass in the hall and kept the front garden tidy surely someone should've noticed something was wrong. It's just a shame that she paid all her bills by Direct Debit. Or she would have been found years ago.

Re: BODY MAY HAVE LAIN FOR FIVE YEARS
sounds bad but I knew the postie who was on this walk about 9 years ago. He was,how can I put it without sounding nasty, not worldy wise. He kept coming in every morning complaining about the smell coming out of one of his flats. Obviously all the guys around about his walk thought and said the same thing every day,Have you checked that the old guy that lives there is ok. the daft hunt hadnt and the guy was dead.lay there for about a fortnight before anyone else in the stair complained.
I am a postman and I kept the faith and I kept voting, not for new labour but for the working man.

Re: BODY MAY HAVE LAIN FOR FIVE YEARS
Payment is only part of it though, there is a requirement to read the meters, if they were indoors they could have applied for a warrant for access, if they were outdoors there would have been no movement and should have prompted enquiry - it certainly would have when I worked for them. If the meters weren't read and the payments were by direct debit - which as we all know they keep putting it up - there must be a helluva an overpayment after 5 years - I hope someone takes the trouble to check because I'll bet they won't volunteer the information.custard wrote:often in cases like this its all paid by direct debit with the poor old sods savings/company pension paying for itdvbuk55 wrote:I'm surprised she wasn't found sooner - the electric and gas companies, the community tax for the council surely something like this couldn't have gone on so long unnoticed by someone

Re: BODY MAY HAVE LAIN FOR FIVE YEARS
Anyone whose meter hadn't moved over a three month period had someone like me checking to see if there was a case of illegal extraction of electricty - that was when the electricty was nationalised maybe they aren't bothered as much now.custard wrote:we've been due a new meter for 2 years (external) but they keep failing to show up for the appointments they makedvbuk55 wrote:Payment is only part of it though, there is a requirement to read the meters, if they were indoors they could have applied for a warrant for access, if they were outdoors there would have been no movement and should have prompted enquiry - it certainly would have when I worked for them.
