Official Industrial Action - Ipswich Mail Centre - Handling Mail during Official Industrial Action
This LTB is to advise Branches that CWU members at the Ipswich Mail Centre are taking official industrial action as follows : Late Shift on Distribution 14.45 - 19.00 (Tuesday 30th June, Late Shift on Processing 19.00 - 22.00 Tuesday 30th June, Night Shift on Processing 03.00 - 06.00 Wednesday 1st July, Early Shift on Distribution -3.30 - 08.00 Wednesday 1st July, Early Shift on Delivery 03.59 - -9.00 Wednesday 1st July, Night Shift on Distribution 05.00 - 08.00 Wednesday 1st July and Early Shift on Distribution 05.00 - 09.00 Wednesday 1st July, Early Shift on Distribution 05.00 - 08.00 Wednesday 1st July. Early Shift in Processing from 05.00 until 09.00 Wednesday 1st July.
Royal Mail has advised us that in order to ensure a full service to their customers it will be necessary to make changes to the circulation of mail.
Branches are reminded that only properly balloted industrial action is legal and any refusal to co-operate with management over these changes may be deemed unofficial industrial action and therefore illegal. This, of course, applies to use of supplementary staff and levels of overtime to clear the envisaged backlogs.
All such measures will of course need to be subject to the normal consultative arrangements to enable the receiving offices to be resourced.
It is imperative that no office becomes involved in any activity that could be construed as unofficial industrial action as any such activity could place in jeopardy the validity of the legal action taking place at the Ipswich Mail Centre.
Branches experiencing any difficulties should in the first instance refer them to the relevant Operational Assistant Secretary at CWU Headquarters.

It's good to get these types of threads, the ridiculous my manager said bollox, so we can reassure ourselves that while the world is falling apart, Royal Mail managers are still being the low-life C***S they have always been.

The daily grind of having to argue your case with an intellectual pigmy of a line manager is physically and emotionally draining.

Re: WHICH UNITS OR AREAS ARE HAVING BALLOTS OR IA
Have heard from the sub rep that due to the on going situation in our office, there is a strong possibiity of a ballot. To make sure of a good coverage, and due to similar problems in neighbouring offices in may be that all M, thats Manchester postcodes offices may also be balloted. Will keep you posted as and when I get more info.

Apparently there are 5 offices in dispute close to or at stage 3 in the M postcode area. As a result, the Manchester branch have advised that ALL offices within the M district will be balloted.

Re: WHICH UNITS OR AREAS ARE HAVING BALLOTS OR IA
the length of time it is taking to get ballots processed is outrageous, are the CWU headquarters hoping the longer it takes the more chance royal mail will come running to them for a meeting. I SAY GET RIGHT IN ABOUT THE SCUMBAGS WI ALL FISTS FLYING THESE FU**ERS NEED A GOOD PASTING, any offices who don't want to ballot resign from the union we want fighters not cowards on board and that goes for ward & co as well. Re: WHICH UNITS OR AREAS ARE HAVING BALLOTS OR IA
Our ballot papers must be due soon as the DOM was walking around the office this morning telling people not to ballot, this made everyone even more determined to 1. Hold the ballot 2. Vote Yes
So keep on moving, moving, moving your feet

So what exactly was he threatening to do about it if you did Ballot. Considering that there's no way he could possibly know who took part, and who didn't?

Re: WHICH UNITS OR AREAS ARE HAVING BALLOTS OR IA
Basically, the Union is worried that if it did it as a Naional Ballot. Then one mistake in the Paperwork, would render it illegal. so they'd have to reballot the entire Country. But if they do it Office by Office. Any mistakes with the paperwork, would only stop one Office's Strike, and leave the rest of the Country unaffected.
