London to take 3 days strike action next week

Post by Martin Walsh »

Notices were served this afternoon to Royal Mail informing them that the London membership will be taking 3 days strike action next week.

On the 8th July all delivery offices apart from EC deliveries will have a 24 hour stopage. In addition W1 WC and SE London hubs will be on stike. LAMU will also be on strike

On the 9th July RDCs and VOCs (network ) will be on stike

On the 10th all London mail centres ( East , Mount and South ) will be on strike and all the remainder collection hubs. EC deliveries will be on strike as well.

Further action has also been agreed for the following week but as it will be wider than just London I will not reveal that at the moment.

This is an official strike and we will have picket lines and we will ask all offices to respect them.

Great, good luck to all on strike, and perhaps after this we should be looking towards a national strike soon.

FFS :arrrghhh whats the point of having 1 unit on strike for 1 day this action could drag on for months, the only people being hurt is the customer and we need them on our side, Royal Mail has shown that they don't give a flying f**k about the customer. We need to have units going out for 2 or 3 days per week, we need to show Crozier & the government that we mean business about safeguarding our jobs and providing customers with a decent postal service, I'm fed up with customers complaining about how late they get they're post and having to tell them that with planned job cuts they'll be getting it even later.
Come on CWU Headquarters show them we mean business, stop pussy footing about, we're up for the fight, are you? :mfo :cfo :lfo

If people complaining about strikes meant much, the unions at BA and the Underground would have been broken a long time ago. It would be nice to have public opinion on our side but this isn't a fight that's going to be won in the pages of the London Evening Standard.

Dingo, would it not make more sense to delay this type of sustained action until more offices are balloted, i say this as a member in an office that is currently awating a ballot. don't like the idea of cheering from the sidelines while my colleages are losing almost a weeks wages.

Look we were never totally have public opinion on our side when we are striking. But bumped into an old Royal Mail manager who was their brains behind the employee agenda for those who can remember back then he was agenada man. Now we had a lot of disputes with him during that time but he was Royal Mail through and through and knew the bussiness inside out and knew how to do the deal. When he saw me he said "see your striking still nothing changes but they will never beat you because the public like postman and women " and that part is true.

Belle we would love to wait but with a number of revisions being introduce next week and the following week including removing improved attandances making indivduals work an extra 46 days per year and removal earning of up to £ 6000 pounds per year mean we cant wait and there we need to take action next week to hurt Royal Mail and maybe delay those executive action.

With regards to whether one day strikes work well they have in the past. Off course we would all like to take more but when your taking 15000 people out you have to make sure you keep everyone together and bearing in mind this will probalby be a long dispute especially as Mandy and co will not want to hurt us even more for them having to shelve the sell off plans.
