A DISGRUNTLED resident says his postal service is as bad as ever – just weeks after Cheltenham's Royal Mail boss promised to fix it.
Dean Carpenter, of London Road, held showdown talks with Swindon Road sorting office chief Ian Tyrrell last month after six years of problems.
Mr Tyrell personally assured him he would improve his poor postal service, but just a month later the troubles have returned.
Mr Carpenter emailed Mr Tyrrell to complain – only to be told the Royal Mail man had moved on and was no longer responsible for the service.
A spokesman for the Communications Workers' Union later confirmed Mr Tyrrell had been promoted.
Mr Carpenter, 57, said: "Mr Tyrrell said he would sort it out. It got better for the first few weeks, but now we are back to the same old situation. It is so frustrating."
Mr Carpenter, who suffers from terminal cancer, said he first complained about missing mail not long after moving into his basement flat in 2003.
He says he has since lost a series of debit cards, car log books and bank statements because postal workers won't walk down the steps to his front door.
On one occasion, Mr Carpenter said he was even threatened with having his electricity supply cut off because he hadn't paid a bill which hadn't arrived.
After several complaints, Mr Tyrrell agreed to meet Mr Carpenter in May to discuss the problems.
Mr Carpenter said: "He agreed to put a regular postman on the route to ensure they would know where they were going and a regular relief worker for when they were not there.
"Instead we have gone back to getting agency staff who don't know the area and the problems are as bad as ever."
A spokesman for Royal Mail said: "When Mr Tyrrell left, Mr Carpenter was personally given a number of avenues to contact us, including alternative email addresses.
"We are obviously very concerned to hear his problems with his post have returned and will be looking into it straight away. Mr Tyrrell has had conversations with the new manager and has made him aware of Mr Carpenter's situation and any other problems he may have been dealing with."
