POSTAL workers in Clevedon and Yatton are planning a 24-hour strike in dispute over longer working hours.

Members of the Communication Workers Union (CWU) at the two branches voted 3 to 1 in favour of the industrial action.

This morning (Mon), Bristol CWU branch secretary David Wilshire was in Clevedon talking to workers about the action.

Union official Mike Newport told the Mercury: "At a time when postal workers are already struggling with work loads, the Royal Mail is going ahead with executive plans to cut more jobs.

"This will lead to more work for the same pay. And when the work loads pick up again in the summer there will simply be too much post, and some will end up not delivered."

The CWU is to notify Royal Mail of the planned strike action before carrying it out within 28 days.
