MDEC101 wrote:So a scab is someone who crosses the picket line, what about a union member who just doesn't attend work whats the view on that. I do feel for the non-members who can't strike due to fears of UA or Sickness records.
Obviously the more posties outside the gate the better> (bearing in mind the law on pickets ) If a union member does'nt attend for work and stays at home that is his choice, in my mind he is still withdrawing his/her labour and supporting the cause.
As for non cwu members i have no sympathy as at the end of the day they get what little benefits that are negotiated on their behalf by the CWU on the backs of members, the simple answer is JOIN THE CWU, problem solved.

Thanks for the link Spartacus. I've seen parts of that film, but never the whole piece. Some brave men and women in those days and we stand it that tradition as Friday will show.

How long can we stick it out? One day longer than the strike breakers and bosses! Don't you go selling us out Dave Ward!

To my mind ( maybe 'cos I know the definition of "honour" & "integrity" ), being a union member is exactly being a member of a political party - you may not agree with the entire manifesto, but come election time, you keep your gub shut, and vote for your party....you don't vote for the other lot, cos you like their policies better, or cos your lot have no hope of getting a significant number of seats, you vote for the party you joined & sub, or you stay away, YOU DO NOT GIVE THE OTHER SIDE ANY SUPPORT AT ALL.

If you can't do that, you don't vote until you cancel your membership & let everyone know that you have cancelled it.

we have a guy in our office who has a day off on friday and asked the dom for overtime it is disgusting to think a union member would do that if you cannot afford a days pay to fight for what is right leave the union. Would not be so bad but it is the guy's day off. The section that he works on in our office is also the most militant. :lfo :lfo :cfo :cfo

[quote=i totally am behind backing in what r m are trying to get us to take on... but a lot of the ones that are coming in think whats the point in strike as royal mail will " bring it in anyway. [/quote]

They may end up getting certain changes in anyway, but what kind of peson would we be if we all jumped when told, we all should stand up for what we believe in, if we dont agree, EVERYONE SHOULD HAVE A BIT OF RESPECT FOR THEMSELVES AND FELLOW WORKER, AND AT THE LEAST MAKE IT HARD FOR THEM, to bring in changes. If it wasn't for the union and its members standing up, making it hard for the managment we wouldn't have these great working conditions that we are now trying to protect.
