Working on the MDEC, I don't know how long it takes for rounds to be prepped etc, but I don't know how it's going to take longer on Saturday than normal.
I would imagine that during Friday the managers would prep everyone's rounds, along with those who go into work. If enough staff come in, then someone might go out with all the special deliveries, and large businesses.
Since on Friday, very little mail will be collected and processed, the mail for Saturday will just be what would have been delivered on Friday. Since some of the rounds might be prepped or part prepped anyway, if anything it will take less time to deliver.
Monday however might be the day where everyone will have uncompleted rounds, because on Saturday everything that should have been posted on Friday would be collected on Saturday. This will lead to more mail needing to be delivered on Monday, so prepping time would be longer, which would eat into the delivery time.

You have answered you own question shiggadi, by admitting that you have never been near a delivery office except for possibly collecting a parcel etc.Shiggaddi wrote:Working on the MDEC, I don't know how long it takes for rounds to be prepped etc, but I don't know how it's going to take longer on Saturday than normal.

I know you might be trying to help but you aint.... If you have ever done a walk after a strike you would know full well how the work is.. The deliverys get shafted.. DONT DO OVERTIME TO CLEAR IT PEOPLE JUST THE DAYS BEFORES WORK... DATE ALL YOUR WORK,, LIKE YOU NEEDED TO BE TOLD....Shiggaddi wrote:Working on the MDEC, I don't know how long it takes for rounds to be prepped etc, but I don't know how it's going to take longer on Saturday than normal.

OK, fair point point Tommo. There's probably lots of other factors that I've missed out which would indicate that Saturday is going to very busy. We get management thinking they know things better than those who actually do the job in the MDEC, so I know how you feel getting someone who doesn't know the ins and outs of what goes on in the delivery office making comments like that. Apologies and hope I didn't cause any offence.
Just a matter of seeing what people say on the boards about their Saturday deliveries, and indeed Monday deliveries as Johnny pointed out.

cruisey wrote:Madelin, i'm a rep at my D.O. On Saturday, if you go in at 5am, do the IPS as per usual, go to yr frame. Prep your duty in. Once you've prepped in the mail,go to your manager and tell him your not going past your time. (normally 10.30, 11am if you take a meal break) You then take enough work to take you up to your finish time. Any attempt to force you to work over is deemed as BULLYING. Overtime is optional. You don't need to put it in writing that you don't wish to work over. If your manager threatens you with conduct for not going over or threatens to change/move you of your duty politley ask him for a HR1 form. There is also a union B&H form you can get from your rep. The only way RM will win this dispute is by bullying and imposition.
A PLEA TO ALL POSTIES: ALL THE GOOD WORK DONE ON FRIDAY WILL BE UNDONE BY POSTIES GOING IN ON SATURDAY BEFORE THEIR START TIMES, TO GET A FLYER. THE SAME GOES FOR MONDAY. START TIMES WERE PUT THERE FOR A REASON, LETS STICK TO THEM
all i was saying by putting it in writing you are giving them more than enough notice that you are not available therefore avoiding any excess pressure.
Maybe your management work differently to ours but bullying springs to mind

Buisness as usual Saturday. Drop mailsort, out of office by 6.30 and get home to your families. From what my ex-collegues are telling me you're being hammered in advance of Friday, so there won't be a backlog on Saturday. This is being anticipated by managers, so they'll screw you BEFORE the strike day. They know you'll all drop on Saturday, so no bother.
By the way. I'll be on the gate in support on Friday, and I'll be proud to do it. Just because I've left doesn't mean I've forgotten. And I live near enough to my old office to bring tea and toast!

No problem Brother... Its a tense time for all and i thought any comments not spot on could dishearten the union.. We need 100% backing from people, Yes i know some will scab but the front liners and staunch people should be focused on the strike and everything positive that can come out of it... We all know that Deliverys get the hardest job after a strike,, Well people should do and im now in a mail center and i still think working in a DO is much different.. But after all we are all the same... SAME JOB SAME UNION... SO WE ALL FIGHT TOGETHER.. U made no offence to me shiggs mate... CRACK ON ANDShiggaddi wrote:OK, fair point point Tommo. a) If they don't pay you to do docket then don't do it, we don't work for funmadelin4 wrote:ones in my office are saying that as we have been on strike they wont be paying us to do overtime? no one wants to do extra on sat.... what they say to us also is to duty holders is that if you do not complete the duty you will be moved of it
b) if you don't wanna do extra on a saturday then just finish at you allocated time, your contracted for 40hrs (or whatever your time is) so anything over that is voluntary
c)if everyone breaks off what they gonna do take everyone off their duties, a complete shuffle that'll help clear the backlog won't it
