Overtime grief..

Post by P739 »

In my office we are now into our SUMMER LAPSING duties...My duty takes 3 and half hours on a quite day (not many) and about 4 15 to 4 30 most days..Then they are asking me to take out a part of another duty which i refuse to do as my own duty takes me over my finish time...Problem now is CLAIMING OVERTIME..everyday this week getting grief about it but i refuse to move on the issue..Now they count my letters in the morning (which adds more time to my day) before i tie up..The situation is now getting farcical but i will not give in...The problem in the office is there are loads of guys like me but they are scared shitless to claim overtime because of the GRIEF they will get...sad but true.

The answer is simple.....dont book overtime just cut off....they cant make you work over your time si work to it and bring the mail back
Tell your rep they are making you later by counting your mail and if needs be put in a grievance

I personally don't care what a dim says about overtime, If you work it you should get paid for it. To be worried about booking overtime because of what the boss says is foolish. The whole purpose of their snide comments when booking overtime is to make you uncomfortable doing it. I couldn't care less what they say, Its my money and noone is gonna stop me getting it, least of all some bully in a tie, if their opinion mattered in the least to me, I'd rarely sleep. I'm there to earn money, if I wanted to volenteer, I'd work in oxfam. Don't ever feel awkward about booking docket or they've won, and hey presto, the work force becomes the volenteer force. Water off a ducks back, end of.

When is anyone going to realize that dropping mail volume, (number of letters), is not our problem?

The number of delivery points visited combined with weight/size of bags is the only important factor here.

If every delivery point used to receive 10 letters and now due to a 9%, (mythical or otherwise), drop in mail volumes receives only nine letters, you still have to make delivery to the same number of properties. If the overall weight of your bag is reduced due to the so called reduction in numbers then you may feasibly complete in a slightly quicker time due to a speed improvement carrying less weight. However this is where packet numbers come in, the quantity of packets carried by the foot soldiers has increased significantly and still is, officially too, this increases both the size of, possibly number of, weight of and also the awkwardness of your pouches. This not only negates any speed increase due to weight reduction, it actually increases the delivery times.

On top of this I believe that the downstream access stuff, which I estimate is heavier than ever, targets more delivery points than ever too thereby also helping to increase delivery spans.

This post is without doubt one of the most sensible ever posted on here. The only problem being ....THE DIPSH!TS WHO RUN ROYAL MAIL DON'T UNDERSTAND THIS and the thick managers are brainwashed into believing like them.

Well, take a look around this site.

It is clear that Royal Mail have a National policy of psychological bullying and harrassment towards their staff based on lies and ridiculous statistics.

All designed to supposedly make us work 'harder' when all it does is demoralise people who consequently work less efficiently.

A rubbish management creed implemented by a rubbish management.

And to the feeble minded line manager zombies who try and defend this policy with the "I'm only doing my job" reposte - We are not convinced - that's what Hitler's managers in the gas chambers used as an excuse.
Spanish practices - Que?

Totally agree, but----they say that because there is a drop in mail of 9% or whatever, that you have too much ips time now, so if you are trying to claim for delivery you have no case---your individual performance is in question!!! Flexibility agreement my ass!!

This same thing happens in my old office. And yes it is very true that ones do go over time and are afraid to claim it and for a peaceful life never worry about it, but why should the posties do that!! I never would have!! I remember I used to claim 15 mins, and why not, if i was 15 mins late in the morning I would have a tick at my name till i got 3 ticks then told its conduct code!!! Stand your ground!!

Our dom just locks his office ( where the docket book lives ) when he leaves hours earlier than anyone gets back.

Maybe he hopes that we will forget to book it when we come in the next day
