New pub parcel delivery scheme launched

People can now have their parcels delivered to their local pub rather than the sorting office under a new scheme.



Scottish & Newcastle (S&N) is backing the launch of useyourlocal.com — the brainchild of former S&N manager Stuart Mills.

The scheme allows pubs to register to receive parcels on behalf of their customers if they are not in when it is delivered. Royal Mail estimates there are around 40m unsuccessful first time deliveries each year.

"We all know that pubs and clubs across the UK are having a tough time at the moment but we also know that opportunities exist to help pubs and clubs to improve the marketing of their outlet and offer new services to their customers,“ said Mills.

"With the Royal Mail alone making around 40 milion unsuccessful first time deliveries a year, this is a very real problem and an incredible waste of time, effort and money for everyone.

"Most people regard a visit to their local pub as infinitely more appealing than the prospect of joining the queue at their ‘not-so-local’ sorting office on a wet Saturday morning and hopefully the trip will help people rediscover the delights of the great British pub.”

Licensees can join the scheme for £50+VAT a year, which gives them their own website, facility to email news to customers and the option to have parcels delivered to them.

that's the greedy pub co's , makes you nostalgic for the old patrician Victorian family breweries but that went out in the 80's . There was the beer orders under Thatcher as according to the EEC , breweries had too much of a monopoly . To get round it , the breweries swapped their pub estates and breweries over . The pub co's with their estates were set up with generous assistance for the senior managers of the breweries . All good free enterprise .

Basically these pub co's could charge whatever they liked for rent and the tied landlords could only order beer which was 75 pence per pint over the odds . People would hand over their redundancy cheques for a tenancy , if it didn't work ; there was some other mug to follow along . Spivs and speculators got into the trade and made a killing in the property boom .

Landlords would be working all hours ( and it's damm hard work ) and have turnovers of £200,000 - 250,000 p.a. but only make £14-15 K p.a. in wages . Sir Fred the Shred got involved as it looked like a nice little earner , he got fleeced by Scottish & Newcastle , now the banks want their money back .

Add to the equation smoking bans etc thanks to McRuin & co , this was only going to be in places that served food which was fair enough , you can go to ASDA and get 4 cans for £1.40 or so , probably awful fizzy p*** but it get's people tanked up ; and you can see why it's a dying trade .

You can only make money on catering , margins of 200 % - 300 % - the parcel idea isn't necessarily that barmy i.e. Witherspoons charge a lot less for coffee in the morning than the American chains like Starbucks etc .

New Labour have been far too benign , and even the bl***y CAMRA CEO is in the pocket of these pub companies .

No, Teenagers, and even Children, can go into Pubs. But only if they're accompanied by an Adult, and don't try to buy anything alcoholic.

there's Off Licenses for Children / Teenagers , they must start at 10 - 12 where I live , there's a banner across the street today - " Happy Birthday Nana ! - 30 today " .
