That's a good point Night Tonic. If the Strikes had gone ahead at the 3 sites, where it was declared illegal. There's a good chance that RM would have followed suit.

Obviously, it would have resulted in a wave of crippling Strikes throughout the Country. So there's a good chance that they wouldn't have gone that far. But IMHO, it was a wise decision to reballot them instead. True, it's reduced the impact of the remaining Strikes somewhat. But it gives everyone the chance to regroup, and attack again. Without anyone having to loose their jobs.

according to these laws it is illegal to withdraw your labour without a proper conducted ballet [amongst other things], this can be a sackable offence with no recompense . obviously, RM think the CWU have technically conducted part of this ballet in an incorrect manner. what the lads and lasses in Lindsey etc have done is just walked off the floor. this is the essence of the Anti- Trade Union Laws , the power has to be in the hands of the employers not the employees.

A growing number of sacked refinery workers are picketing one of the entrances to the giant refinery. They cheer as they are beeped by passing cars and lorries. The placards held aloft read "Put British Workers First".

And that's the essence of this bitter dispute. They claim Total had offered an assurance that no jobs would be lost here while foreign workers were employed on site. A claim the company denies.

The pickets have all been here before, spending days on end in January protesting at the employment of Italian contractors over their UK counterparts. But this protest has been different - unsupported by their unions and unofficial.

That's why they've been sacked, but there's an olive branch - if they apply for their old jobs by Monday then they have the chance to work here again.

On the picket line though they're in defiant mood - describing Total's actions as brinkmanship, vowing to stay out in protest until agreements about foreign workers and redundancies are more clearly defined.

Well the reason London is out is they have seen the mess we are in outside London with royalmail's modernisation!. Royalmail has agreed changes outside London with the union and broken them as they have done in our office and it is not just London which is out on strike Scotland and meny office's up and down the land are having ballots as have our office and soon we will be joining London and Scotland!.

That letter reminds me of chitty chitty bang bang film, remember the evil child catcher children,children, I have sweets for you, come and get it, lolly pops, ice creams etc, it the same with royal mail letter, all these promises, lovely future they are trying to fool you by being so nice,infact I nearly fell for it for a second and than I woke up, and they are also making out the union is in the wrong, and at the same time offering you support, than once you are inside, they will turn on you, like some evil monster, do not be fool by them

I really think that RM send out these letters/give the presentations to make us strike, if they kept their mouths shut and actually worked with the union then we would really have no need to strike.

Digressing somewhat, but what's this "Royal Mail Tracked Plus"?
I've not heard of it and how is it that "the mails market is REALLY EXCITED about" it when I can't find any mention of it on the Royal Mail website.
And how can it be better than ordinary "Royal Mail Tracked" ? Not delivery in "2 to 3 days" perhaps but by 9am or 1pm the next day maybe - and if so how could that be done when it's no longer working properly for Special Deliveries ?

Royal Mail Tracked Plus, is a service available to Business Customers only (so far). Have you got those rectangular things hanging over the Bay Doors, and everywhere else that the Mail goes in and out of the building?
You should have by now.

They read the chips, in the Tracked Plus items. So they can track precisely when each item enters and leaves the building, and by which door. So it's far more accurate than the normal Tracked.

So far, there's only 2 Customers (to my knowledge) that use it so far. But it hasn't been around for long.

That is more to do with the EU & " free movement of workers within the EEC agenda " , there is a " union avoidance " agenda . Though I agree totally with Borders that every successive Tory Employment Act was passed to make things as difficult as possible for unions ( the neutering of unions ) , RM made legal challenges in 2007 & they are presently well advised by US union busting companies .

RM HR Director Millidge does not want National Agreements , they want different places to be on different contracts which are bonus based . Been there before , prior to privatization , infrastructure and maintenance was deliberately split as the true blue building companies waiting to take over did not want to deal with a big organized union , most of RM's board / senior managers are looking for a exit strategy .

We are all behind you

Its about time you all pulled your fingers out and done a decent days work, down in the south west we have made the changes and savings, so why cant the bigger offices and mail centres do the same. Id sugest that the managers started to manage, the workers started to work, then maybe we 'd get somewhere, its inevitable that jobs will go and more flexibility is required. Its annoying that the CWU seem to manage the big offices. Send up some managers from down here, I bet they would pull the hours out that are hanging from the wall.
