The "Heat Is On" at Stoke MDEC.

Post by Magnus »

You know we had that cold spell a few weeks ago, well it seems they have forgotton to turn the thermostat back down.

Halfway through tonight a couple of middle-aged blokes, with white hair and drenched in sweat, walked down the MDEC wearing towels, in between discussing stock options. One of them wanted to know where the pool was!!!

But seriously, in an age of "global warming" and "higher energy costs", can they turn down the thermostat a couple of degrees instead of letting us boil. Hopefully they will have done by the time I get back at the weekend.

Take care, folks, and keep your cool.

If we say anything they'll reply with "Sorry, we have no control over the air-con, it's down to day-staff!!" :chuckle

Your lucky our heating and cooling systems are controlled by an office which is 50 miles away from us. At least thats what the Managers say when we complain its too cold or too warm. :crazy: :crazy:

We've had exactly the same problem in Plymouth. The temperature on the late shift has been unbearable, but when you complain, as usual, nothing gets done. I've been complaining for two years to my manager(s), in VDU's, and still the problem is never sorted. And it's not just the heat, when it gets hot there's a lack of air and the place gets so stuffy causing people to get headaches. It's been significantly worse since they've tried cramming more people into the areas, and even worse after 6pm. However, management are quick enough complaining when team stats drop below 95%, but won't consider these conditions we have to key in.

Good news is that they have started to open the windows.

Last thing we need is 200 sweaty people in an airless room.

Take care, folks.

I'm back in work tonight. I was told last week it was fairly warm on the MDEC.

It's going to be sunny and warm this week as well!

Let's see if the old thermostat has been turned down a notch!

Here's hoping!

Take care, folks.

Indoor workplaces

You must provide:

* a reasonable working temperature in workrooms usually at least 16°C, or 13°C for strenuous work (unless other laws require lower temperatures);
* local heating or cooling where a comfortable temperature cannot be maintained throughout each work room (eg hot and cold processes);
* thermal clothing and rest facilities where necessary, eg for ‘hot work’ or cold stores;
* heating systems which do not give off dangerous or offensive levels of fume into the workplace
* sufficient space in work rooms.

What? Removed? I'm sure I'm not the only person on here is highly amused by this parody of our 'beloved' shift manager.

It may have been amusing but unfortunately if fell foul of the rules. Darn those things.

I think you should give him a break.

He's actually a decent bloke when you get to know him. He's obviously a busy man and so doesn't always have the time to get to know people on an individual basis.

I've encountered far worse.
