3 London Offices to re-ballot

Post by Martin Walsh »

Royal Mail used the anti trade union laws to call into the question the accuacy of the information which under the 1992 Employment act that we have an obligation to show them.

After legal advice the union have decided to reballot the Mount , Nine Elms and Rathbone Place. Notices were served today to the employer and ballot papers will be sent out from Monday naext week. Meetings with the members will be held this week with divisonal reps meeting the rathbone membersip tommorow outside the biulding as they have banned us from entering the biulding and the Mount on Wednesday right around the clock. Nine Elms are doing their meetings today.

Whilst it is frustrating to have to reballot, we are confident of getting an even bigger yes vote.

The action for the rest of London will still go ahead on Friday and Saturday for night staff as aready stated

Thanks dingo :Very Happy Hopefully more offices outside london should join? I think if more areas join in,the tactic of having regional and divisional action is better than a national strike because it causes chaos for management   but i think we are nearly at a stage where a major national dispute is inevitable.

Is there any chance of further legal challenges by RM??

If offices outwith London want to ballot for IA, don't we need a reason?
It's just a thought, but I don't think they'll accept, "Well, London's doing it."
Don't get me wrong, I fully support London and Scotland's decision to strike and I feel that we should ballot Nationally, but we need a reason that RM cannot deny.

ithink the strike should be called off until further notice as if nine elms are working at our office they bring the work through the night so when we go back saturday the mail will already be there as if they was on strike it wouldnt so not having the effect it should have there playing straight into royal mail hands so im saying lets have all of london out

Tmac, not quite sure of the exact wording of the london ballot but i think its worded so it can be rolled out nationally, something about RM not sticking to national agreements etc. Im sure your office will be feeling the effects of the current RM slah and burn policy, if not now it wont be long. Its time WE the members stood up and fought for our terms and conditions, and it doesnt matter if you work in west london or west lothian its vital we act as one :pray :pray

Mine is one of the 3 to re-ballot, something about the way results were announced, There's 2 DO's in my building and the results should have been done for each Unit but they were all lumped together, :no no

Tmac we cannot stand down the action the law states that unless you take action within the 28 days than the ballot is void.

Whilst the situration is not ideal , remember we got a 91% yes vote bigger then we got on the employee agenda dispute, bigger than the London weighting in 2003 and bigger then the result in 2007.

Remember logsitcs and RDCs including PRDC are on stike so work will not be where it is supposed to be in the first place and yes some work will be there Saturday mornings but there will be no deliveries Friday the vast majority of offices in London. Our next action is already planned if Royal Mail dont come to the table and it will be in line when the Mounts , Nine Elms and Rathbone Ballots are live and they will be invovled. However remember on function based action which we used in 2007 mail centres were working when delivery offices were on strike and vice versa.

To call off strikes and to turn inward is exactly why Royal Mail use an union busting legal firm in the states for advice. Now is not the time for panic now is the time for bottle. We spoke today to all Branch Secretaires and Areas Reps who have spoken to their local reps and we are green to go.

Comms and meetings will be dispatched tommorrow and it really is time to fight. Royal Mail `s plan will destroy our futures and any pause or doubt in our resolve will allow Royal Mail to impose further revisons and their further plans. Two more offices SW20 and N1 had notices for executive action served today.

Pinstripe we have a reason and its what every one is being balloted on in all areas of the UK and its : Are you in favour of taking strike action in against Royal Mail breaking National agreements and in pursance of your national union claim of a new national agreement on dealing with the future.

Every Branch in the UK knows that they should be holding meetings in workplaces and producing comms and where they have offices which can be balloted now then they should be requesting those ballots. This dispute is about creating a domino effect which strangles Royal Mail`s abilty to operate and forces them to agreeing a new national agreement on the future including shorter working week , pay and job sercuirty.

There is no longer any hiding places in this union for reps who talk a good fight but never produce the goods.

There is a national divisional reps meeting at Wimbledon tomorrow and the message to them will be produce the goods and get more offices voting for strikes.

Yes Dingo I am and I am sure that my office would return a massive YES if asked. Unlike London we have already had the changes imposed, and if it wasn't for the determination of our unit rep, the outcome would have been much worse. RM continue to push for more and more, but he receives little backing from Branch. The call not to agree anything came a month too late for my office (and many others).
If the call comes we will answer, but London must realise that there are a lot of members (not me!) who will feel, why should we help London when they stood by when we were being done over.
You guys might not like it, I know that I don't, but not everyone cares too much about what happens anywhere apart from their own front door. I'm afraid that is a sad fact of life

Pinstripe this is not about helping London its about helping everyone in the UK. We are fighting for a national agreement on our futures including the new delivery model , how many mail centres are going to be left , if we are ever going to get paid for change again inclduing the shorter working week and if we are going to stop complusory redundancies.

Please dont be confused Royal Mail is not going to stop at just imposing the revison at your office, no they have an end game which means they will contiue to come to your office again and again to reduce costs.

You see when Crozier said postal workers weres 25% overpaid and 40% underworked he meant we will continue to cut and cut and cut again until they believe that not to be the case.

London and the other 160 odd offices growing all the time are fighting for a future not just a revison but an agreement which means we have a future. This is a national dispute the outcome which will determind every offices future, its your choice whether you join in or not. We know that the numbers of offices is increasing all the time.

its time that people stand up to the threats that royal mail plan, year on year there will be cuts and the only way to counteract this is for branches to stand firm and say enough is enough.
in scotland we have offices banning overtime which is causing chaos in some areas, other areas have different ways to show rm that their vision of the future and the union's is poles apart.
london has an important role to play because of the size of the potential chaos this could cause and despite what they say this is the end product of the strike that royal mail fear so good luck to all the members on their action.
