Can understand concern in your office, I always beleive you lead by example, every Rep should be on the gate. I applaud you for being the only picket as I have been there (but only once when no-one thought I was able) most of the time thankfully I was accompanied as it is very lonely!! But I am the Rep and I like to see who the strike breakers are in my office! You should go for it and become the Rep!!ldsposti wrote:Good on you london i will be there in spirit, the last strikes we had i was the only one on picket the office rep could not be bothered to turn up at least the area rep came with a flask of coffee, oh by the way members in our office are not happy with the rep they want me and i have had non members come to me and say if i will become the rep they will join the union what do you guys think.

It's good to get these types of threads, the ridiculous my manager said bollox, so we can reassure ourselves that while the world is falling apart, Royal Mail managers are still being the low-life C***S they have always been.

The daily grind of having to argue your case with an intellectual pigmy of a line manager is physically and emotionally draining.

Ye
Yes-but if the strike is called off, folks are expected to return to work, and if you aren't there to do that, and don't turn up,they could in theory get rid of you for unauthorised absense or whatever.

I was never even in a UNion before I started at RM but after 3 months I knew that it was the best option. The 2007 strikes were my first ever and I went on every picket, even the ones on which I was on official leave. We always had more than 10 and we only had the police turn up for a mass picket when they were approximately 80 of us. The Sgt just reminded the 6 official pickets and 74 supporters (![]()
) of the rules but said as it was a friendly picket and we were not blocking access for the public he would not do anything. Apparently it really upset the DOM as he called them, perhaps he felt intimidated by the solidarity shown.

Re: Srikes
That is the risk you take not turning up. But they are usually ok about it - I think they are just glad you have come back. When they called the strikes off at the last minute there were a few who were uncontactable and they just marked it down as official IA and no further action was taken when they came back.stokes11eg wrote:YeTrueBlueTerrier wrote:Its a good idea to just in case but there are no hard and fast rules. We shouldn't need to do a poll if we are on strike, we should all be out supporting our collegues, fighting what we are entitle to, we are all in the same boat at the end of the day

Sadly, there are those, who're so disilusioned, that they're actually considering trying to cross the lines. See for yourself: http://postmanchat.com/forums/showthrea ... 108&page=3" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;kwf166 wrote:We shouldn't need to do a poll if we are on strike, we should all be out supporting our collegues, fighting what we are entitle to, we are all in the same boat at the end of the day
For those who don't have an account on Postmanchat. Here's a couple of quotes:
Most part timers live within their means of the part time wage!!!! So they would be losing out just as much financially as full timers!!
I am in the Union, I am now part time, and I will break any strike after being shafted by RM, CWU and fellow collegues over the last strike, we had full time staff in on O/T at night to clear the back-log (and they made up alot of their lost income!)...........nothing was offered to part-timers. Double standards, so who can blame those that come in over a strike!
The only reason i work 34 hours is coz i wanted to join RM and that was the only contract they had going in the DO i work at.
It was fine last yr as i had o/time..now i just live on the 34 hour money...i havent yet decided if i will go out on strike if it comes 2 it
What do you reckon the odds are, that if they needed help. They'd go strait to their Union Rep, wanting help?

Which bit do you think is a lie?
Stokes11eg, which part of my Post do you think is a lie?
Are you suggesting that I misquoted the posters from PMC?
Or perhaps you think I'm wrong to think that they'd go running to their Reps if they ever need help themselves?
Or maybe, you think that THEY are lying about their reasons for considering crossing the lines?

Re: Srikes
Sorry, I just saw the "Liar" Smilie. I thought you were referring to my Post.
I didn't realise that it was a mistake with the Quoting.
I wasn't offended though. Just curious as to what you thought was wrong with what I said.

Ha my chance at last - a lot of members get the quoting wrong.
When you press the red Quote button it opens a new window in exactly the same way as you would when making a new post. Always try to start your post after the "
"
Also if you break someone else's quotes with comments of your own you can highlight their parts by when ending your comments and starting theirs by using the "

For instance
The smiley [ /quote ] Oops [ quote="stokes11eg" ]was supposed to be the Managers, pretending to be Posties on postchat!
Everybody out!!!! [ /quote] would look like this (ignore or deleting the spaces in between the [ ] )
