A hard-working postman died after suffering a heart attack while on his round.

Salisbury coroner’s court heard on Friday that Jacobus Kaandorp had collapsed at the Salisbury sorting office earlier in the day but was determined to go back to work after being seen by doctors at Salisbury District Hospital.

Mr Kaandorp, 57 of Highfield Road, started work early in the morning on October 31 last year.

He was sorting the post for his round when he suddenly felt dizzy, fainted and fell to the floor, Colleagues persuaded him to go to the accident and emergency department at the hospital where doctors carried out a number of tests.

The results of an electro cardiogram and the other tests came back as normal and Mr Kaandorp appeared to be well.

He said he had no chest pain and returned to work later that morning.

At 11am he was delivering post to Hollows Close, Harnham when he collapsed at the front door of a property.

The householder’s son, Dan Bilton, discovered Mr Kaandorp and tried to resuscitate him while an ambulance was called.

Paramedics continued to try to revive Mr Kaandorp but he was pronounced dead at the hospital at 12.20pm.

An inquiry was carried out at the hospital but consultant Dr Ralph Scott told the inquest there was no indication Mr Kaandorp was suffering a heart attack when he attended hospital earlier that morning.

Coroner David Ridley recorded a verdict of natural causes.

I would also like to echo my sentiments to the sad news - R.I.P. brother.

And would it be within the bounds of the RMC site boffins, to in someway possibly have something like a garden of remembrance on RMC, for past CWU/Non CWU colleagues who have either been killed at work, died at work or due to ill health reasons passed away whilst at home - something on these lines.

As an example we in the CWU shall never forget them, CWU members killed at work:
Stephen Tovey, Ian Dicker, Roger Jenkins, Freddy Burns, Donald McAndrew, Wilfred Clegg, Frank Goodwin, Terence Leeks, Tara Wheelan, Kevin Prince, Niki Savage, Alan Jones, Chris Wilson, Robert Cropley, Dennis Nunn, Dave Chamberlain, Paul Savage, John Thompson, Colin Smith, Gerry Barker, Daniel McColgan, Bramwell Ward, David Askew, Frank Kerr, Jermaine Lee, Ben Turk and David Rennison.

What A lovely idea.Hope it comes to something.If there is one good thing about working for R/M it is the very strong bonds that develop amongst workers, even those that have long left, or never really fitted in too well in the first place.

we have had 2 deaths in our Office in two weeks, one in a crash, the other after complications from a long illness, both too young to die, so its not been too good in our Office.

And of course RM management allowed him back to work instead of sending him home for maybe a few days or a week to rest, obviously something caused him to faint!
