What the hell is happening?

We started our summer savings this week.

We all have to do an extra 30 mins delivery, Mon and Tues not too bad, but quite heavy today.

About 8 people told the boss, they weren't prepared to go over their time.

They were told if they didn't do the extra work, they would be taken off their job.

So everyone went over their time, booking about an hour each!!

seems the Dom want the walk absorbed by the whole office which will equate to each postie taking between 8 and 12 delivery points each.....this is seen by management as a good idea as the walk is right outside the office with the furthest point being no more than 5 or 6 minutes away by bike
our union rep also sees no problem with it as on monday even after taking our meal relief we were standing around for about half an hour waiting for the misssorts to come in
we will wait and see if it works or not
tell them to shove it :no no

what you've just said is exactly what happened in our office last year, "summer lull, nearest duty to the office lapsed and absorbed by everyone" - so, 1 duty lapsed

then it was upped to 2 duties

- and so on -

we now have 5 duties lapsed - all year round except Christmas - well, I think Christmas will be excluded - but you never know

basically forced to do overtime that I don't want, knackered by the time I get home - I'll probably drop dead in the street from exhaustion one of these days

Tell them to put in a grievence, you can't be made to work over your time if you don't want to.

After a failed attempt last year at summer absorbing, this year it has reared its ugly head again. 4 walks between 120 of us. BUT a select few dont do any absorbing, the drivers dont do any and niether do the firms drivers which isnt fair. We can either bring it out with us before our duty or come back with it (we have been told that we dont have to bring it out before our delivery and if told to do so, to tell union) we do it on mon and tue but it will not work the rest of the week.
My concern is with the customer, who hasnt been informed that they will be getting thier mail at 4 sometimes 4 pm. i have been collard by a number of customers complaining about the lateness of mail. its not fair on them the service is poor enough without this, and the managers dont inform of this either someone needs to get this out in the public domain, kick up a fuss, coz its us that take the stick for it at the end of the day.
on the ips, there are fewer and fewer of us as people are being taken off to prep the absorbtion walks. thus leaving us on the ips even longer. it wont be long before the 4 walks become 5 become 6 become 7, its rubbish.

i thaught the union pushed to maximise members earning potential. surely this is just taking money away from the people who want ot?
also, there are a number of people too scared or worried for thier jobs to speak up or say no to managers. surely this is a major case of bullying? someone needs to bring this to public attention also. its wrong we are being treated like this.

Come on whats up with these 8 posties one minute they say no they won't work over their time, next thing they all back down, as i understand the agreement it should only be implemented if agreed with your local rep and you have the spare capacity in your duty time to complete. If you still agree to do it and run over time ask fot that time back on saturday otherwise use the cutting off procedure.

If these cuts are unagreed then go to disagreement NO MORE SAVINGS!

Its not so bad in our office.
We cut off prepping other walks earlier and have the extra time to go out and do a bit before the missort run.Sometimes we even get a break :cuppa
I don't know what the rule is on how many hours you can walk a day but we seem to be absorbing the walks with minimum fuss.
Probably got a gaffer with half a brain though at our place. He knows if he doesn't push us too far we'll be flexible.
To be honest though mail has really dropped off this last few weeks.I'd be lying if i said i couldn't do an extra 15 mins a day.

In our office the whole office absorbs 3 walks, we all take about 20 houses every day for 12 weeks. We had a vote 1) To do as above or
2)Take one big lump once a week
we voted for one small bit every day.

Told at WTL today job and finish was being reintroduced as a reward for those who agreed to take out 10 mins extra work from a lapsed duty.

As soon as any manager mentions job and finish here the pungent stench of fish wafts gracefully through the air.

Mail is dropping in some places, very very light today at my D.O vast majority on the road by 8am including myself and i started a minute late today at 6.46am.

We also have the incovenience of a higher % of our mail being walksorted meaning less time on the IPS which lasted a massive 40 mins today.

A few years ago IPS use to last 90 mins most days but now its rare to go over 1 hour 10 mins.

Weve got full timers were only 1 hour of the 8hr 30 min day is being used up on IPS leaving after meal break 6 hours 40 mins for prep travel and delivery.

At the moment RML are having the spare time all to themselves and have no desire to hand any back to the troops by investing in SWW payrise more leave etc.

The bigest problem that RM refuse to see is regional if not local variations on the national figures which is evidenced by RML demand savings that my DOM belives are not realistic.

The floater is still doing the round that is absorbed giving the troops a day off each week and this week the same round is being done on overtime so taking into account day off its only 3 days a week that most people have to absorb on.

We are not allowed to leave the office till the missorts are done and all works are prepped. We dont leave till 10am at the earliest. The walks which are absorbed are usually the same ones. The walk is split into 8 and only takes 15/25mins or so deliver. Then it's onto own round. (I do it that way so I know exactly what Ive got left to do)
We've been told we cant come back for it, and we must take it out, and that we should be grateful to have a full time job in todays climate.
Work over 100 miles away from you mate and the scenario is 100% the same. It is nationally enforced unreasonable cruelty.

We had a WTL yesterday, and on the subject of summer savings, our DOM said that we were due to start it next week, but he said that if we can maintain our current level of reserves, then we will not need to do it.
We have been lapsing one town walk between us for quite a while now.

For the past three months our office has been lapsing six walks. But now they want the sorting frames and mech plan changed so more people would be on ips instead of throwing off lapsed walks. On a saturday they have one postman per walk on the lapsed walks, changing the sorting would mean they would save 36hours just on the saturday.Because people would be taking the extra out for nothing. In the week they would save 60 hours prep time on them lapse walks, people are not happy. My worry is they will lapse more walks  .In total six walks thats 240hours plus saturday another 36 hours plus two people per walk preping 6.15-8.15am every weekday 60hrs.In total 336hours saved.
